So taking a question on notice is the Australian political version of “taking the fifth”?

Only half the questions the Department of Jobs and Small Business took on notice from the last round of estimates were answered by the due date April 20th, with some not returned until the day before this round. I don't know what the late questions were. How common is this?

I studied German history for a while and I had a very specific imagery in mind of what I thought had been posted. This is nothing like that, I wouldn't even call that a hook nose. I think someone just confused banker with jew and jumped the gun.

Honestly, Bandt should just come out and say 'this doesn't look anything like a Jewish charicature'. He's already got the mustard out of the jar, he isn't getting it back in now.

Doesn’t Amazon already apply sales tax to US states separately? What’s the big deal if they apply GST when the shipping address is Australian?

Amazon are already remitting GST to the ATO from their Australian entity.

The major difference is that American sales tax is applied at the end of the transaction, not required to be part of an advertised MSRP or RRP. The prices in Australia must be after GST.

Somewhat common but it opens the door to a censure motion. In the current senate that would be couragious.

The Turnbull government has pulled a bill applying more regulation to the live sheep trade after the Liberal MP Sussan Leysignalled she would vote for a Labor amendment applying a ban on exports.

The government was due to bring forward its legislation applying tougher regulations to the scandal-prone industry, but yanked the bill on Thursday morning after Ley signalled to government colleagues she would cross the floor.

Yeah, I was just implying that I got the impression that she trotted that line out every time she didn’t want to answer a question (so for all of them). As the questioner pointed out she wouldn’t even answer the question about if the police had interviewed her. It’s not like that was some obscure detail that she would need to look up first.

Watt asked her a question, got "I'll take it on notice", turned to Cash's secretary, asked them the same question, got an answer. She was absolutely stonewalling on every question because she can, and because she wanted to.

Senator Cameron's questions were often answered with "that's a matter before the courts" and similar. He and the other Labor senators thought that wasn't a good enough reason not to answer, especially as Liberal senators got answers regarding the courts and the CFMMEU
