Excuse me, your Rabbit parts are undetached.
I get that there's a bit of "haha punch the fash" and "gently caress 'em, they deserve it" going on here, but just to remind you all that actual street violence is not fun and games, and if you're seriously considering it, you'd best learn to do it with discipline, awareness and restraint if you're not going to gently caress not only yourself up but also people and causes you care about.

E: uh, new page, uhhh, section 229 from the Criminal Justice Act pertains to the assessment of dangerous persons which seems somewhat relevant given the context?

Oh great, John loving Bolton's doing the rounds in London, I'm sure that will help calm the EU's worries. I hope Trump's got some really great trade stuff planned for the UK, because if his UK trip and Putin date go off like I imagine, I wouldn't be surprised to hear they gently caress the brexit negotiations over irreparably, in addition to whatever other damage they cause

From May's perspective, I think the people telling her to toughen up and stop making concessions begin to sound pretty persuasive, she'd definitely be helped at home by some news that the EU was 'forced to concede' something. Even so, traveling to different capitals with the express purpose to undermine the negotiations--why the gently caress is this still a thing? She's been doing Brexit for two loving years, does she still believe that anyone in a national government looks at the disaster and thinks "yeah sure, I'm absolutely down with grabbing the responsibility for this from Barnier, why the gently caress wouldn't I?"

Yea. To quote a (badly translated by me) old swedish 70's song

the Capital raises your rent costs,
the State your rent support,
that way you can cheat a bit around
iron-clad wage laws,
and even pay you lower wages
than prices for food and for rents,
because the State is only to happy to help
when living costs have become unaffordable

So what do we think of this new Mexican President who's likely to be elected? I see the papers calling him left-wing and some comments from Corbyn on Twitter, but what's he all about? Seems like a pretty significant step for global socialism for a country like Mexico to be making him President, but how much power will he actually have?

In other news the Tories are considering giving renters minimum three-year contracts. I'm detecting a pattern here of them moving slightly to the left with each policy announcement and Labour immediately calling it not good enough. It's nice.

Labour are quite rightly saying that minimum tenancy is meaningless when landlords can force people out by jacking up the rent.

It will be fun to see the Tories piss off all the buy-to-let scum in exchange for absolutely no extra votes while making Labour's policies seem more and more mainstream though.

Sadly not open for comments, otherwise the usual Tories who hang out at there would be screaming how unfair it was that the tenants aren't tied in for 3 years too. And that a rented property isn't your home, it's my flat, now shut up and be grateful I'm letting you live there.

Ah, I see you're not familiar with the Latin-American Populist Left Wing (tm).
It's not really gonna be socialism, far from it, but it's gonna be "not neoliberalism" which is good enough on its own.
The best commentary of a ruling party in Latam you can aspire to is "okay they steal a lot of money but they also do some things for the people".

Won't this mean, however, that landlords will ask for lots of guarantees from their potential rentees (e.g. someone who owns a house in the same city must act as your solidary guarantor, you have to present last 3 months of payslips, must have been working in the same job for the last 6 months, must earn a minimum salary, etc), and do their best to avoid people on benefits and such?
I'm not pulling this out of my hat, this is literally what happens in my home country where rentees have more rights and protections - landlords end up being super cautious and turn people away if they're not sure.

It's a big show for the people back home, acting like the government is trying so hard to make Brexit work, same as Cameron Goes To Europe before the referendum

They're just blagging it, there's absolutely no way they can get anything close to a negotiated deal - if that chance existed ever existed. So they're just going through the motions, pretending like they've been successful and there's a real plan but at the last minute the hated EU has stymied the whole thing. Now plucky May will travel to petition the individual nations, to conduct diplomacy and negotiation the old fashioned way, without BRUSSELS interfering as always

So it's theatre to cover their own arses, and it also plays up to the whole "blame the EU/everyone would be better off out" angle. It's like the historic Florence speech, which was nothing but is always talked about like it was something important. She doesn't actually need concessions - if anything that would be worse, because then she'd get what she wanted but oh look, the result is still bad, great job? It's better propaganda to have the the EU saying no and rejecting all the UK's "efforts". She'll say the individual nations sounded positive about the UK's Real Deal (so you know it's good and a thing that exists) but it's the bad EU that won't accept it

I think it depends on the contract. As far as I know you can have a contract that includes regular 'reviews' of the rent with the opportunity for the Landlord to jack it up as much as they want.

They already do all this just to put you on a six month tenancy, it's a huge problem.

Really they use the same argument of 'we'll just stop renting to people' against every type of reform. The reality is that they already only rent to the safest possible highest profit-margin tenants, and they always will. They also won't let properties sit empty, so they'll have to either rent to someone or sell up.
