Resident Evil 4 HD texture project is also out on 13th July, finally covers the entire game + mercs. Looks loving amazing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUcd2DDykOM

In case you haven't been following it, these guys (2 of them I think) actually went out and found the actual real world places where Capcom took photos for their textures, and took their own hi-def versions for this. It's literally the best HD remaster I think I've ever seen and it's completely free (and approved by Capcom themselves apparently)

Finished Resident Evil 7 last night, was a hell of a game I thought. I know people complain about the boat and mines sections but they were relatively brief and fun enough that I appreciated having a bit more game to play. Also it was cathartic to just be able the blast away with the machine gun and remote bombs.

Onto the Chris DLC next! Between RE7 and Evil Within 2 it feels like survival horror had a cool resurgence last year.

It's really fun. You can still play it free through the Bethesda launcher. I think it'll be free to play on Steam when it comes out of early access but if you like it you should buy the all characters pack at the early access discount

That literally happened to me, I turned up for like the last semester of the year and the tutor said "um who are you"

I don't like the idea that people suffered to make something I enjoy. It's hard to watch the resuscitation scene in The Abyss knowing how much Mary Elisabeth Mastrantonio got abused by James Cameron insisting on filming take after take of Ed Harris basically having to beat her, and gently caress anyone that thinks that kinda stuff is really worth the end result. Also as bad as eating meat is I take particular exception to stuff like foie gras where it's literally a product of torturing an animal. While months of crunch aren't literal physical torture it's still a horrible thing to do to people.

Videogames aren't worth destroying people's lives over and the whole 'everyone does it' thing companies always throw out is no excuse :smith:

it's fine, all of its problems are ones present on ps4 too and they're a bit overstated. dmc1 has some small issues with graphical effects and slightly wonky audio but it's nothing you'll notice unless you're a mega purist, same with dmc3. i've heard about some issues with crashing and performance, but i've only hit some odd slowdown with dmc1 like, twice and the only time i've had it crash on me was when i was playing dmc2. i'd say it's overall kind of unquestionably the best way to play the first three games on pc, especially if the guy making mods for dmc1 and 3 manages to get quick weapon switch and a mission menu working in dmc1

Thanks! I enjoyed what I played of the first one back in 2004 or something but never really got round to finishing it or playing any of the others. Good to know the PC version is worth it!

Also Rivatuner Statistics Server is amazing for reducing input lag with vsync and also eliminating the stuttering problems that 80% of modern games seem to have.

i don't like referring to odd, surreal media as nonsensical fever trips because a lot of stuff that people describe that way have really strong personal ideas that they want to communicate and i feel like calling them that is being worthlessly dismissive

Fever trips also play deeply into subconscious thoughts and insecurities, and can manifest some pretty personal fears - it's not an insult in any way.

That said, I'm not trying to say the narrative is meaningless or without merit but as a whole it asks questions it doesn't try to answer and by the author's own admission is missing a tonne of pretty important content. It was loving cool to play through at the time and had some great ideas, don't get me wrong, but it's largely a case of style over substance

The OSSC is cheaper, but also the people that made those sound really excited about a thing they're getting ready to sell called a RetroTink 2x which takes composite, s-video, or a component source to HDMI and is like a third the cost of an OSSC and doesn't need you to mod your console.

They only have signups for preorders at the moment, so it's not available to sell yet.

But yeah don't use cheap scalers. If your tv has component, you can usually plug composite cables into it. It won't be great but neither are most cheap solutions and this is free.

The OSSC is great if you want to add scanlines to older consoles, and emulates a CRT display pretty flawlessly. The new device is much cheaper but only does basic linedoubling. It doesn't accept composite but does take SCART and adaptors for the latter cost like £1.
