I'm mentioning Travis Jervey, although I"m not sure he was good enough to make it to mediocre.

Whoa I had even forgotten about Michael Turner even though he was too good to be called mediocre. Shows how fast guys fade away after they're out of the league.

We all have players on our teams that we'll hold in high regard until the end of time. We also have guys who were so awful they also somehow stick in our memories until we die.

However, there's one type of player that I feel is extremely underappreciated, and in this offseason we should give the guy a little time in the spotlight before we inevitably forget about them again. I'm talking about the Mediocre RB.

They don't usually put a game on their back, and aren't really that flashy. At the same time they are good enough that when you see them line up for a play, you don't really even acknowledge it. They also happen to stick around forever. Sometimes you are still surprised to see they are still on your team's roster, but because they aren't that bad or that good, you really don't care that much.

Sometimes you'll see them on another team without realizing he was cut from your own. But through all those years they lined up and gave your team a few yards here or there, maybe even busted for a big run every few games.

Tell me about your Justin Forsetts, your lawfirms, and your Willis McGahees before we once again move on to forgetting about them. TFF, tell me about your favorite Mediocre RBs.

We had Priest Holmes. He was a super cool mediocre RB here who won a SB with us, and then went on to have a great second act in KC.

Also Jason Brookins. He was a pretty good player for an undrafted rookie who got his chance when Jamal Lewis went down in 01. He went on to green bay where he was famously cut cause he thought he was getting cut so he just left and went home. But they just wanted to make some changes in his playbook.

And if he puts up over 1k this season he will be knocking on 3rd.

And most of the Giant backs before Tiki too.

Joe Morris as a 5’7” powerback somehow in the 80’s. The aging Ottis Anderson getting 3 yards a carry to kill clock. Rodney Hampton having a few 1000+ yard seasons for teams running the most conservative offenses in the NFL. Dave Meggit as a third down/return specialist before becoming a rapist. Also Tyrone Wheatley and the previously mentioned Ron Dayne :geno:

This is a strong argument.

Regarding Gore, I think his pure consistency, craft and persistence puts him well out of the true "mediocre RBs". If nothing else a true mediocre dude would only be in the league like 3-5 years.

From this past season:

Alfred Blue
Eddie Lacy
Robert Kelley
Thomas Rawls
DeAndre Washington
Chris Johnson (did you know he took handoffs this year? I didn't)
Paul Perkins
Brandon Oliver
Robert Turbin
Andre Ellington
Dwayne Washington
