I tried Black Desert and wasn't thrilled, but it does have one innovative feature EVE lacks: You could leave your room.    If they can ever get Walking In Stations working that would open up a vast vista of cosmetic microtransactions that wouldn't hurt the spaceship game at all. It would also be launching a huge new feature to try to rope in new players. And the RP crowd loves nothing more than sitting in taverns or running shops. And I gotta think at least some of the people who take their space job too seriously would love to be able to have their staff meetings in a space office where everyone sits around the space conference table. It could probably be a money maker even if there was no first person combat feature and it was just a social thing. Once you have avatars wandering around they can have housing, a lot of MMO fans loving love housing. And once they have space homes they want to decorate them and not just have anonymous identical space hotel rooms like CCP gave us. People will pay tens of dollars for fake furniture and spend hours lovingly arranging it. For example, here's the furniture you can buy in BDO. http://www.bdo-furniture.com/ Some of that you can get in game, but all the nice stuff requires spending actual money. (Oh, and in BDO there is minor benefit to having one of the best decorated houses in town. Best decorated being decided automatically by having the most 'points' of furniture, with cash shop furniture worth more points than the free furniture. So anyone who wants the best decorated prize turns their home into an ugly cash shop warehouse.) From there it is no big whoop to add in housing based minigames that let you use your house as a grow op for piddly amounts of tabbaco, spirits, or long-limbed roes. Things that would have a terrible isk/effort ratio, but would be catnip to the sort of people who love MMOs but hate PVP. There are a lot of people who love MMOs and hate PVP. They don't have to gently caress up the parts of the game that work well in order to mine cash from the IP. They will, but they don't have to.

According to DOTLAN the asset saving thing has dumped my archon 11 jumps and like 100,000 helium from 1DQ. Should be fun. Wait, no, the opposite of fun. There's jump fatigue now too, right? Maybe I should just ditch the carrier and go back to frigates. Frigates are the best.

I'm moving various assets around from lowsec to Jita, and finally one of the little jerks camping a lowsec gate gets a point on me. Oh no! My brain shorts out for a moment then I remember to turn on my tank. I'm flying an old 2014 drakefleet drake, so it's a lot of tank. I remember to turn on my missiles. Oh, hey, his shields are going down a lot faster than mine. Actually I'm not sure if mine are going down at all since I turned on the tank. Finally I remember my webifier and try to get within 10k of him to turn that on too, but he flies away.  Why would a lone gatecamper even bother to point a drake? Yeah, it's slow so as hell, but from what I could see still really tanky. If I hadn't been so out of practice (and bad at eve) I might have gotten one of my few solo pvp kills. I totally forgot I had drones until after he flew off. Oh well, good practice.

I gotta say, all the people living in every single system is freaking me out. I was looking for a quiet spot where I could practice the scanning mechanics and no place in Delve has less than like 7 dudes hanging out. It used to be that most systems were deserted most of the time. It's all so busy now.

Or you see a goon scaming someone so you take it upon yourself to get in the middle and warn the mark that he's being scammed. But mostly you'll never even know goon rude boys are out there being mean to pubbies unless you go out of your way to join those special interest groups. The stories of that part of the game are well known because they are more interesting than stories about standard MMO activities like how you mined a rock real good or whatever.

Instead of a 2 week trial people play for free with an Alpha Clone which is limited in many of the same ways the old trial accounts were. So you probably won't be able to fly a bunch of your ships, but you can log in and see if what's going on before you commit to paying a subscription.
