I’m pretty impressed, actually. For senators neither of them are particularly polished, but Harris hasn’t been doing this for long so she has at least has a good excuse. But they each seemed to actually be pretty exemplary of the faction of the democrats they represent. Harris was sticking to socialist/DSA talking points and was able to talk about them somewhat passionately, and she seemed to have a lot more general awareness of what’s going on in the world, and was able to connect with the audience and get an enthusiastic response out of them. Carper seemed haggard and anachronistic. He was spouting gibberish half the time. He said he liked trump for being a force that unified the Democratic Party, which was met with dead silence, as he said this while literally debating someone from a rival party faction. When asked his thoughts on abortion he tried to push the idea that women should have a say in their abortions as something progressive, and that men shouldn’t decide that for them. Overall he seemed disjointed in time, stuck in a loop repeating the same poo poo he’s been saying at debates since the 70s or whenever. It seemed like he has been living under a rock since the Clinton administration and is totally oblivious to the issues of the day. If this is a preview of what’s to come within the Democratic Party over the next few years, then a lot of places are going to see their old guard establishment dems replaced with a new generation of hard left representatives. Of course, debates aren’t everything and a bunch of dems probably had no idea this debate even happened and will keep voting for Carper out of habit.
