Another quiet, sweet episode today. No big plot drops like we had in the past two eps, mostly adding some texture to our character relationships, particularly Sayaka and Yuu. I actually enjoy their dynamic as it starts to develop here quite a lot. Storyboards are as lovely as ever, and I thought the sound design was particularly excellent today, especially when the rain set in in the second half.

Touko's o_o face and Yuu's reaction were pretty much perfect examples of animated body language. Also, Sayaka owned bones at the bit at the start. No lesbian shaming in this good show.

I really love how the anime kind of underplayed the 'what do you mean by that?' bit with Touko. I was expecting it to be this big record-scratch moment with the soundtrack and the cinematography and everything, but instead they played through it very smoothly, without breaking stride, letting the storyboards and the character acting take you through the emotions of the scene. It's good.

drat Touko does not let her guard down one bit, won't even let a bit of suggestive comment fly. Felt super bad watching Yuu desperately taking back her words like she was about to lose Touko. Touko is such a broken person, I don't see any way to improve the situation without her initiating a want for change.

Yeah, they're basically a big beacon of hope for the future for the younger girls, along with being an advice dispensary with actually good advice. We need more good mentor characters in high school series.

Things getting a bit hot and heavy in here. Shame we didn't see Riko-sensei's hilariously bad running adapted. I think the insert song is the companion song for the OP? It's nice either way.

The character art was kind of loose and toonier than usual all through the ep, but it kind of lent itself to stuff like the running, so it all works out. Incidentally, the bit with Miyako giving Riko poo poo after the festival was anime-original unless I'm very mistaken. Not a big scene, but I liked the added character texture. Anyway, we've now finished volume 3 of the manga - on pace to get like halfway through volume 5, I expect. Look forward to it!

I really liked the face animation through this ep. It did get rather loose and blobby at times, but never looked wrong.

I was sort of on the fence about this one at first. Touko’s pursuit of Yuu seemed bordering on predatory. But we are getting some surprisingly well done representation with Riko-Sensei and the cafe-shop lady, and the sports day episode was one of the best I’ve seen this season.

My girlfriend and I binged what exists of this so far and we both got hyper invested in these girls like I swear to god if they don't get a nice happy ending we're gonna riot. Anyway I super love the opening with the flowers it's just gorgeous and pretty. So much of this show is gorgeous to look at.

Another strong episode - although I did think they played the dream a little quickly and awkwardly. Lots of great introspection from both Touko and Yuu, and their talk at the donut place was really lovely just to listen to. The voice actors have just done such an outstanding job all season. Interesting that we covered 3 chapters today instead of our usual 2. I wonder if we might finish Volume 4 next episode instead of taking 3 episodes for it like all the other volumes did? Would open up the possibility of the show making it to the end of volume 5 by episode 13, which would be a nicer stopping point than the one I'd been expecting for a couple of weeks now. The upcoming camp's pretty meaty, though, so we'll have to see what happens.
