Their website says there's going to be two expansions released (2019 and the other " sometime later"). With how much of X3 theyre cramming into the new X4 engine, I'm excited to see how this game plays after 2 expansions and all the community releases that will no doubt be available at that point as well.

My biggest thing as a noob in X3 were ships that I controlled remotely to scout and trade apparently would crash on gates or other ships and take tons of hull damage or get destroyed and then I'd have to spend 20 minutes afk repairing with my suit repair laser. The only way I'd be able to make money early game was harassing enemies until they ejected then take them over. Then it's another half hour of repair laser

The explorer within me approves immensely.

Edit: Being able to literally hitchhike through systems is also amazing in every way.

Being able to quickly get from point A to point B kind of diminishes the sense of scale for me in games like this. There has to be a happy medium for sanity sale, of course, but I can't wait to get in the game and see how it feels.

Yeah it was a small one, was trying to work my way up. But I wasn't doing the mining by myself, i was letting the AI do it for me, and they waste so much loving time plus they pick up a lot of the 'empty' asteroids. Probably would have been fairly decent if I was piloting things myself, but i think my times better off doing missions for now. Also sucks to hear the explore command sucks, as I was hoping I could get a better way of filling out the map without having to drop 100k for each mk2 satellites.

Also : scanning the outside of a station only to fail to recognise that the wall I'm trying to scan is a xl size ship and being caught in its drive bubble and dragged away from the actual station when it moves has caused me more than one double take tonight.

Dude if you hit shift+D you get green lights leading you into the dock no matter where youre at. Switching seats and having to watch the lovely AI figure it out for you every time you dock sounds 100x worse

what kind of bug even is this

Just had this glitch as well, and my map showed me way out of bounds. Eventually i appeared back in a nearby system, but now my map is totally hosed up on all of my saves no matter how far back I go. Graphical bug, a bunch of lines, are all across my map and I can no longer see waypoint lines on my map which is a pretty drat big deal because otherwise I have no idea where im supposed to be most of the time. Already restarted and tried all my saves. Looks like best case scenario a reinstall will fix it, or its a new character for me. :(

This game is so much fun. Really everything that an X3 sequel should have been. They really did a good job, and between expansions and mods, this game is going to be THE space sim.

Btw how do you unlock lockboxes? Just shoot them with regular ship weapons?

so far I've just been a traveling repairman. I specialize in satellite repairs and data leaks, and make decent money doing that. Also it seems that data leaks missions give a choice. You can either do the mission properly and repair the wires with your suit. Or scan the data leak with your ship and instantly fail the mission, but have a chance of unlocking a free blueprint, or getting a (usually criminal faction) missions, and things like that.

For the antimatter cells mission, how do I actually get the cells? The Antimatter Cell Factory shows up on my map but it's in a weird no-mans land between two sectors. Even when I set a waypoint to it the game just send me back and forth between the two sectors that the station show up as being between. The game can't even figure out where the place is at. Is this a glitch and the station just had a bad spawn out of bounds, or is there more to it? I can post a screenshot if needed

Dude im in the exact same situation as you and posted about it earlier. Still havent figured it out as ive gone off to do other things, but im still not sure if its a glitch or not (hard to tell with so many glitches). The quest says "Grand Exchange I" which the factory definitely shows OUTSIDE of that, so im really not sure. Let me know if you figure it out

Also, i cant find this drat cargo container within this area. Ive done 100 long range scans of various degrees in power, and flew all over the bubble in scan mode, theres nothing out here, what am i missing
edit: mission was bugged. reloaded the game due to an unrelated glitch, did mission again and scans worked fine.

While docked, jump on top of your ship (may need to use the C button to do crouch jumps). Once your on top of your ship, assign order to your captain and enjoy flying around space with no space suit on (press F2 to get a good look at yourself).

Had anyone been able to do a successful inventory delivery mission yet? Every time I approach the station I get a message informing me the mission was failed due to the recipient of the quest dying. I heard from someone that its due to the NPC you're supposed to turn it in to fails to spawn and thus the message. Was just curious if anyone's been able to get one. My failure rate is 100% currently

So I hypothesize that they released the some of transport ships with the wrong cargo types. My reasoning for this is such:

1) all the races have two M sized transporters that cost the same price. However one always holds more than the other, and the one that holds less typically has no major redeeming characteristics

2) the lesser of the two ships all seem to have a model that shows "barrels" or "tanks" on the side. These are almost identical to the containers you'll see in gas fields that hold liquids/gas

3) transport ships can be assigned to other ships (miners) to trade for them. This would be an excellent feature to have M transports dock on L/XL miners to collect either their solid(minerals) or liquid(gas). However, since no transport ships currently have liquid or solid storage, this requires miners to do the mining and transporting themselves.

Maybe I'm completely wrong on this, but it seems very odd that if you want to trade liquids or ores, you have to do it with mining ships.

I bought a Demeter Sentinel so I can do those Food/Medical supply missions smoothly, as I got two right near eachother so why not? Also because hey it looks cool, and 9,840 Cargo isn't that bad for a 2.5 travel speed. Teladi get 12k space but they are slow as poo poo.

It even has two co-pilot chairs, one on either side of the main seat. The seats also have a really cool animation :buddy: They flatten out vertically when you get up, then fold into a traditional chair shape when you go to sit down... But not for NPCs, they are kind of awkwardly standing with their arms held up :v:

There is however, a problem with the crew pathfinding. In a new and fabulous way!

I bought some crew staff as a whim/due to the supposed result of making trader ships work better somehow. They are constantly deciding they want the other chair, and use the shortest distance to it.

The ARG and HAT better appreciate the sacrifice my nutsack is making to deliver them food rations and medical supplies personally.

EDIT: Also, turns out I'm not allowed to sit in the co-pilot chairs :argh:

Yeah I was pretty bummed that I couldn't sit in the co-pilot chairs and that the npcs constantly change seats in front of your face every 40 seconds. I ended up selling that ship and just use a fleet of vultures now. I really love how the paranid M haulers look. All the larger combat ships look silly though

Based on how fast they're addressing the major complaints about the game I think it's realistic to see all the main systems (auto-pilot, trading, wars, turrets, station building) polished up by the end of the year. The game is already very fun to play. I can't wait to see what an expansion and some mods can turn it into though, so it all depends on what you want your first playthrough to be like.

Glad you found a solution, but for things like this try leaving the sector and the game will just "calculate" what the AI should be doing rather than actually simulating them walking to your ship, sitting down, etc. This fixes a lot of AI issues such as ships getting stuck, flying in circles, Marines not capturing ships, crew not boarding/departing ships when hired or fired.

Before I go about dicking with it, anyone toyed with putting smaller ships with their mothership sized partners?. L sized mining and transport ships can dock smaller ships, so could I say, assign 40 S sized ore miners to an L sized ore miner and them all move as a group?

I have no idea about this specific scenario, but I do know that ships moving as a group is pretty broken right now. Even if you assign a wing a formation and then give a move order, everyone just heads their at their own top speed, leaving slower ships sectors behind. I'm not sure if mixing Ls and Ss will give different results, but it would be interesting.

Buy as many Drill Vanguards as you can and set them to mine for Nividium in Hetvikah's End 2. They make about 250-300k per 15 mins. I bought about 11 of them and then ended up leaving my PC on and came back to over 44million credits. I saved the game but im going to go back to a previous save since that feels like cheating, but apparently thats a decent way to make some money.
w
Though I was sad to see that even overnight nothing seemed to happen in my game. No stations were taken or anything like that. I even saw that my miners had gone into Xenon sectors to automine without any escorts and none of them died or showed any evidence of even taking damage while mining in enemy territory (on patch 1.3 btw).

Man that update video is great. You can tell these guys really care about their game. Looking forward to all the fixes and updates, but honestly the one that tickles me the most is Betty talking more. I didnt realize how much I enjoyed that from X3 until it was missing from X4. Hearing my little ship AI rambling in wildly fluctuating pitch as I target things was awesome, "TEL-AH-DEE", "Vanguard, HARRIER, Hauler..". Glad to hear they are aware of most of the complaints, and not just the ones in X4, but the issues from previous titles as well that they are trying to iron out. Cant wait for 2.0

For anyone restarting, your first order of business should be getting a handful of trading ships to keep the shipyards and wharfs supplied when you need to. Else you're going to get stuck waiting for possibly hours to get any new ships or even just restocking on equipment.

Does this mean if your ship build is stuck in a queue, you need to bring enough materials to get your ship build plus all the other ships that aren't yours that are also waiting to be built before you can get your ship completed? I don't mind the idea of having to provide my own materials since the building itself only takes a couple minutes (should take longer Imo), but I don't want to have to provide resources for 7 other NPC ships each time I want to produce one for myself

Seems like no matter what the Xenon are just bitch made. Maybe for the first few hours of a new game they actually are active and doing something, but even without doing anything directly, they seem to just go dormant after a while and if you ever want to see them again you have to visit their sad little reservation at the north of the map. Same for all of the enemy factions really.

This game has been awesome so far, but after securing a reliable stream of income there just anything to do. The PHQ missions were actually fun and i wish there was more stuff like that. I know patch 2.0 won't add much other than stability, and i don't expect mods to fix faction warfare in a super fulfilling way, so at this point it looks like I'm waiting on expansions to add an end-game. The base game has been a really fun demo of what X4 can become though
