2 I follow NFL podcasts and read about them, but I haven't watched either play.
3. Would you select Goff or Wentz in a vacuum?
Wentz The knocks against Wentz are overrated to me. Level of competition and arm strength are not good predictors of NFL success.
4. Do you believe either selection would be a valid #1 pick in five or more of the last ten years of the draft?
No 2013 maaaaybe.
5. Do you believe this draft class as a whole will rate in the top five of the last ten years?
Yes But probably not in the top 2/3
6. Which QB will have the better statistical rookie year?
Goff going conventional wisdom here.
7. Which QB will have the better statistical career?
Wentz I expect him to play longer than Goff.
8. Rate both QBs at the end of their rookie contract according to the following scale:
Goff: 2 I don't like the scheme he ran in college and I expect he will have injury problems.
Wentz: 3 I don't see him as exceptional in any way but I expect him to be good enough to stick.
9. Do you expect another QB from this draft class to have a better career?
Yes I think both will be average so odds are one other QB will be better, no guess who, though

5. Do you believe this draft class as a whole will rate in the top five of the last ten years?
Yes, it's a pretty deep class, and the odds are with more than a couple panning out.
6. Which QB will have the better statistical rookie year?
Entirely depends on the offense they land in.

2. How would you rate yourself as knowledgeable about these prospects? I don't know poo poo, now let me tell you what I think.
3. Would you select Goff or Wentz in a vacuum? Yes, I would. Maybe not for the Seahawks in the first round, but for QB needy teams.
4. Do you believe either selection would be a valid #1 pick in five or more of the last ten years of the draft? No. I think the realization that even an average starter is worth #1 overall for a team that needs a quarterback didn't really take hold of the league until Cam Newton completely ruined everyone's expectations of what a rookie QB can be, and then the very next season the already historic 2012 class produced three rookies who had all time great seasons. The expectations are now completely different and youth, athleticism, and attitude (combined with cheap rookie contracts ) are far more valued than a consistent, mediocre, veteran *coughfitzpatrickcough*. Tl;dr, while I think Wentz has the ceiling to be a top 5 QB, I don't believe Goff or Wentz would have warranted a #1 pick on the majority of the recent drafts only because I don't believe GMs would have prior to 2013.
5. Do you believe this draft class as a whole will rate in the top five of the last ten years? yeah, lots of potential top talent in this draft. These guys will be faces of the nfl for years to come.
6. Which QB will have the better statistical rookie year? Goff, because, and try not to laugh, I think the Rams are probably a better landing place for a rookie QB than Philly.
7. Which QB will have the better statistical career? Wentz is going to be a staple of this league for the next decade. I can see Goff being a top guy as well, but I think he is more likely to plateau early in his career and eventually bounce around the league as a journeyman. Point to Wentz.
8. Rate both QBs at the end of their rookie contract according to the following scale: Goff: 29, he will be fine. Wentz: 558, he will be great.
9. Do you expect another QB from this draft class to have a better career? Christian Hackenburg, because when he leads the Texans to the Super Bowl in four seasons we will revisit this thread and you will gaze in awe at my prediction. Intruder will cede his power of moderator to me and the goons will hail me as I ascend to rule this forum. And, for my first official order of business, I will create a chat thread.

Wentz: 2
9. Do you expect another QB from this draft class to have a better career?
Paxton Lynch because he's starting off with the defending SB champions and a strong chance to remain playoff contenders regardless of his performance, putting him in a position to learn in a low-pressure environment
Korranus posted:
1. Did you follow one or both of the QBs before this draft year?
No
2. How would you rate yourself as knowledgeable about these prospects?
Goff slightly, more on knowledge of the Air Raid offense and less on the man himself.
Wentz no
3. Would you select Goff or Wentz in a vacuum?
No, but if I HAD to choose I'd go with Wentz.
4. Do you believe either selection would be a valid #1 pick in five or more of the last ten years of the draft?
No
5. Do you believe this draft class as a whole will rate in the top five of the last ten years?
Average
6. Which QB will have the better statistical rookie year?
Wentz
7. Which QB will have the better statistical career?
Wentz
8. Rate both QBs at the end of their rookie contract according to the following scale:
Goff: 1 - Only because LA has Jeff Fisher's QB ruining rear end. Some physical calamity will happen to him as a result and he'll be released before the contact expires. He'll go on to make a very nice living as a backup.
Wentz: 3 - He'll be a decent starter, but unpopular with Philly fans who want something better. Wentz will get a nice big second contract somewhere else.
9. Do you expect another QB from this draft class to have a better career?
Yes - Paxton Lynch will be a franchise QB in Denver. I also think Connor Cook will end up in that 2-3 range.

We should make more of these, I'm very keen to embarrass myself in new and exciting ways
Agreed. This one isn't super interesting because they both turned out to be good. Takes would be Funnier if one was good and one was a huge bust

real question: is that dog a treeing walker?
Yes but he identifies as a lab.
I'll use this template next draft for a similar pairing but a different position group.

9. Do you expect another QB from this draft class to have a better career?
No. (edit: and just so it's on the record, I think Lynch will crash and burn in the NFL within 3 years.

Come to think of it Lynch is probably the most crash and burn of any first round QB in a while. Even worse than JFF, which is saying something.

Meanwhile Hackenberg might be the new Jimmy Clausen for examples of a 1 out of 5.

He's the first QB taken in the 2nd round to never play a snap since the late 70s/very early 80s. It's so amazingly bad I have no words for it. Plus considering he played for Penn State and was a Jersey kid, it's amazing the Jets whiffed that hard.
