One of our local TV stations gets PBS news hour every day so they have access to their broadcasts already. They devoted 9am-1pm (my local time) to their mid-terms election coverage special. To me it's loving obscene and insane that voting is optional, so billions get wasted in advertising trying to get people to vote. If it was compulsory to vote like it is in Australia then I think election spending would be lower as they don't need to motivate people to get off their arse to show up. There's still some ads here, but as they know you're going to show up at a polling booth they can concentrate the ads there at the time you vote for maximum effect and minimum cost. If everyone has to vote, it means way less ads annoying everyone on TV, less robo calls and less marketing needed. Save billions! You could even afford to have a vote on a weekend and have a democracy sausage sizzle then. E2: Instead of compulsory voting and cheaper campaigns the USA is like restrict voters and maximize cost. Nice system. Fo3 fucked around with this message at 13:12 on Nov 7, 2018 |

Applebees Appetizer posted:So you'd be fine with me voting for Trump I suppose. Funny how that works, I'm an idiot for not voting, but if I voted for a candidate YOU don't like I'm even worse lol. You started out on this topic because you were against compulsory voting. It's ok if you think that's a freedom you should have to not vote. But then you switched it to the quality of the candidates and in that thought you are getting closer to my point. Guess what? If everyone had to vote not only do you have the choice to show up and vote for no one anyway, but there will be more quality candidates to vote for. If it doesn't cost billions just to get you to the poll then good people who don't have billions of money bankrolled by the major parties and donors pushing an agenda can do a campaign. Of course the USA will have to fix gerrymandering and first past the post voting, but getting people out to vote is the first biggest issue and was my main point (obscene costs, corruption and annoying ad campaigns, robo calls, texts etc which is all done just to get people to polling places to vote and less of that would happen if nearly everyone was already having to go vote) E: Also it makes little sense to say "I don't like candidates so I don't vote" when so many places have state amendments, bylaws or other business that is voted for at the same time over there. It's a ford laser with tx3 headlights (based on the mazda 323). It's what we got in australia from ford australia/mazda japan instead of things like euro fords after we stopped getting RWD escorts and cortinas etc around 1982. We didn't get 80s/90s escorts, or fiesta and sierra from Europe at all. Ford AU was tied to whatever mazda were making and licensing/partnering until the focus, later gen fiesta and mondeo. 80s/90s Ford festiva was the mazda 121, Ford laser/meteor was the mazda 323, Ford telstar was the 626. E: This was back when ford owned about 40-49% of mazda and it's a lot closer to ship knock down kits from Japan to Australia. Ford Australia just made falcons and rebadged CKDs from Mazda Fo3 fucked around with this message at 14:39 on Nov 10, 2018 |

I had a few e5 engined 323s as run arounds, but never a b6 or bp. I used the be a mazda boy, rotaries for fun on the weekends, a 323 (or a spare 808) for a daily. I also did have a few falcons for whenever I just wanted to pick up stumps and drive cross country for funs, but a pre 1997 falcon is a very boring thing not worth paying the petrol costs on for a daily so those falcons always got flipped when I was done with them. A few people I know got GTXs but I lost contact with them over 10 years ago. Falcons got cheap and fun since anyway, and BMWs seem cool and fun. I think dj commie here is the only 323 enthusiast left here, though sgt fox has a good thread sticking a v6 in one. Not sure if the USA got the mazda ford thing, kind of seems like it but they called them escorts over there? I think? Fo3 fucked around with this message at 14:57 on Nov 10, 2018 |

There's hardly any corn in your cornbread! I like Ab's recipe when I make it: Alton brown corn bread preheat 10" cast iron pan in oven at 425F combine in bowl: 2 eggs 1C buttermilk 1C creamed corn Combine in separate bowl 2 C coarse cornmeal 1t salt 1T sugar 2t baking powder ½t baking soda Add liquid to powder, adding extra buttermilk if mixture too dry and loosely whisk Add 2T oil to hot CI pan, pour in mixture, bake 20min until springy.

Only because their friends from the south says no sugar. AB is pretty 'south', Coca-Cola is pretty 'south', iced tea sweetened so much a pebble could float on it is pretty 'south'. Ergo nothing wrong with sugar in corn bread, and I live in the far, far, far, faaaarr south and I approve of it. Fo3 fucked around with this message at 15:02 on Nov 20, 2018 |

MrOnBicycle posted:So 1969 Mustang Fastbacks. Mint ones go for about ~25-35k here in Sweden it seems. I'm not really a american car guy, but who doesn't love a Mustang. A $3300 one shows up. This is the only photo: and the description sucks. It bascially only says that it's for someone who's "able", which means it doesn't run or pass inspection. Of course I'm interested. It seems very cheap though, so either someone who doesn't have a clue, or it's properly poo poo. It wouldn't surprise me if it's sold before the weekend. I have a BMW in Australia and often end up buying parts from the USA ( I really wish UK had more online shops). Postage isn't cheap ($us45 min, up to $99 for either a loaded box or a couple of large items), so parts availability is not going to be a problem and would not be a deal breaker. Big question is how good are you at welding? If you aren't then are local rust/welding guys available? If everyone in your area has new cars maybe there's no shops, or maybe what few that are left are cheap, or horrendously expensive. Fo3 fucked around with this message at 17:39 on Nov 29, 2018 |

They work much better when it comes to removal and patching too. Problem with metal ones they don't work so well with self tapper scews (unless you pre-thread them which is a PITA). The plastic ones are good enough and that's what I used for hanging mini split a/cs (which aren't the lightest thing and sometimes have some tension on the when pulling pipes and bending). Never had a problem with one coming loose of falling, so I recommend them.
