From my understanding manufacturers will put the same actual panel in the TVs destined for discount retailers, but LCD panels are graded when they come off the assembly line. A TV being sold at Wal-Mart or Target is likely going to have a B-grade LCD panel (basically means it will have defects that may or may not impact picture quality), while one sold from a more premium retailer will receive a higher graded panel. And I'm sure they cut corners elsewhere - like cheaper electrical components on the PCBs or shittier speakers.
