I bought a new fridge recently and saw that many of the most expensive models have WiFi and app connectivity. Why the gently caress would I need an app for my fridge? What could it possibly do? If it’s not “making a cocktail so it’s ready for you immediately when you get home from work” then it just seems like a solution in search of a problem at best and probably a vector to siphon data back to the manufacturer at worst.

A friend of mine scored tickets to the National Christmas Tree lighting that happened this evening, so she, my girlfriend and I went and braved the freezing wind chill to see it. Trump came out and said maybe 20 words, 10 of which were counting down from 10 before Melania “lit” the tree, and then slouched off stage. He sounded seriously tired and like he was phoning in his phoning it in. Melania didn’t say a word, and then they were gone. Like 70% of the seated audience left too, either because it was super loving cold or they were over it.

Tbf I understand Steezo’s point about executive overreach and cheering on executive fuckery at any level because it’s your team that’s doing it. I’d prefer to see the legislative process applied to reach the same outcome, but that would of course require our elected officials to actually vote on something and go on the record, which is obviously a Bad Thing come election time. Frankly I’m quite ok with seeing bump stocks get banned, but I’m not really cool with the process used to do so.
