Having just filled out an absentee ballot, I'd like to mention that having access to the internet is invaluable for deciding who to vote for for things like the school board. I never really cared about those sort of things before.

I was told today that my grandmother was stressed about the election because "if the drat democrats take over she'll lose her medicaid"...my response was, quite literally, "yeah that'd be a drat shame, bye" (I know that isn't reality). I can't believe we've reached a point where I don't care if my elderly relatives die of heart attack induced stress because they keep voting to gently caress the younger generations (me) as much as possible.

Talking about the Maryland congressional map gerrymandering, I dug into it a little bit more and  The offending part is that bottom orange area towards DC which was added to district 6 in 2011, which if iirc what I just read removed 66k gop voters and added 22k dem voters to the district. This is also why dems have held that district since it was redrawn (including yesterday). If you believe in actual democracy I can assure you just from knowing the state that a democrat is absolutely not the majority of that western orange blobs first choice to represent them (unless I'm really pleasantly surprised some day).

I'm inwardly gloating because my maga family pushed me a few weeks ago about my opinion on the caravan and I told them I thought it was being played up as a political issue because of the election, where I was greeted with a bunch of "What do you know, you don't even watch the news." I'm also inwardly crying because I know they are too stupid to figure out that I was right.
