update, my new child mazal is in fact a raven

today was likely their first day out of the nest, you can tell by how pink their beak is (and i could tell because they were a drat fool who had absolutely no idea how to be a crow). they were being menaced by a local orange cat and i drove him off with savage hisses, cheered on by the parents. as a reward i was allowed to sit next to mazal as they practiced perching half a foot above the ground (the cat staying away because i'd asserted dominance), i sang them three wordless songs and while i was singing they would fall asleep and fall off the branch. the whole time the parents were watching me from a nearby eucalypt, preening each other and occasionally swooping up to do a love dance in midair
