I can't even imagine the good one and a half trillion dollars could do, not just in the US, but in the world.

It's not spending, it's short-term loans intended to ensure liquidity. It's the institutional equivalent of a payday loan, and it's the sort of thing that the Fed exists for. I'd be all for the government doing this at the individual level, for example following through on proposals for the Post Office to offer basic banking, check cashing, and secured loans. But a two-week liquidity loan isn't really going to meet the financial needs of the average coronavirus patient.

He said there would be no limit on the funding available to pay people’s wages. The payments will be backdated to the start of March, will be up and running within weeks, open initially for at least three months, and could be extended if necessary.

Speaking directly to employers as growing numbers of British firms teeter on the brink of collapse, leaving millions of jobs hanging in the balance, Sunak said: “The government is doing its best to stand behind you. And I’m asking you to do your best to stand behind our workers.”

Stimulus Checks May Be Delayed As Trump Requires U.S. Treasury to Print His Name on Them
