LtCol J. Krusinski posted:Does anyone know how much it would actually cost to implement Medicare for all? It’s gotta be in the trillions. Then again so is the F-35 program when it’s all said and done. 1.5 trillion or so for the F-35. But that’s spread over the next 50 or so years. IIRC a libertarian thinktank did the math recently and Fox and all the conservative sites were using their study to say "UHC will cost $XX trillion!!!" while neglecting to say that even according to the libertarians it would save an enormous amount of money when compared to keeping our current system. So yeah it's gonna cost a loving enormous amount of money but keeping our current system is going to cost that x2-3 while bankrupting tons of people or just letting them die.

You absolutely need a human operator. The guidance systems make the operator's life at lot easier but if you let the thing go on its own you're gonna end up with a four or five (or six) digit repair bill in 20 minutes at best. Even nice flat fields are not flat and obstruction free and most places are not nice and flat.

I think that's wildly optimistic. At best you’ll have a handful of machines being closely monitored by one operator. In like fifty years. It’s like the people who say truckers are all gonna be out of business in 10 years because of self driving trucks. Yeah sure I'll believe it when I see it.

Go along with him to booking." Obviously this might depend on who's on duty and in charge at the time but unless Trump has been stuffing the secret service with his cronies then I imagine it'd go down like he said.

Ah that classic Democratic refrain: "you're not worth our time" It's not like there's an immense right wing corporate brainwashing apparatus at work or anything. My point is that saying "gently caress you we don't care about you" is just as bad a strategy as trying to be Republican-lite and "gently caress you we don't care about you" has implicitly been the Democratic platform for rural areas, or sometimes explicitly as we've seen in this thread. It's dogshit messaging and they will never make inroads in places they won't at least pretend to care about. The whole "deplorables" comment wasn't untrue but it probably lost Hillary the election. "gently caress you we don't care about you" is the actual Republican platform but since they at least pretend to care it doesn't really matter when the other party isn't saying they'll be any different.
