You absolutely need a human operator. The guidance systems make the operator's life at lot easier but if you let the thing go on its own you're gonna end up with a four or five (or six) digit repair bill in 20 minutes at best. Even nice flat fields are not flat and obstruction free and most places are not nice and flat.

I think that's wildly optimistic. At best you’ll have a handful of machines being closely monitored by one operator. In like fifty years. It’s like the people who say truckers are all gonna be out of business in 10 years because of self driving trucks. Yeah sure I'll believe it when I see it.
