I never thought of doing that. I presume you just put a cloth between it and the drywall as your moving the magnet?

I drag the heel of my hand across the wall while holding the end off the magnet the tiniest bit off the surface off the wall and when I feel a tug I gently let them stick. I've never marked up the wall doing that. They're strong enough that I can easily feel them pulling towards nails and screws and they firmly hold on through any compound and paint but they don't dig in at all. They're 1/4" x 1/4" x 1" bar magnets (supposedly n48 but they were from amazon so who knows) that I bought for general magnet based fuckery but somehow I ended up using them as a stud finder when I got pissed at my 'real' stud finder. The size works out well as there's a lot of magnet to hold onto but the narrow end is just about the same size as the head of drywall nail or screw. The really small disk magnets would probably be difficult to get back off the wall without leaving a mark.

I've got a couple regular stud finders and the one I got at Costco, which is similar but not exactly the same as the one meatpimp posted, is pretty good but I still find the magnets to be more precise. Sometimes it's hard to find that first fastener though and a stud finder gets you in the ballpark pretty quick.

Also, Whamageddon time.

I have a decent studfinder too but that's a neat trick.

Belt test for Taekwondo today. Pretty sure I did OK because my instructor came up to me afterwards and told me I did good (though it's not for her to judge, it's the masters), but the coolest part was we did blackbelt testing today as well which only happens 2x per year, and one was a "mature" woman, I'd say 50-ish, going for her 3rd dan/degree. She's been 2nd for many years, probably 10+, but decided to do it several months back and trained drat hard.

There is something cool as hell seeing a ~50ish woman breaking multiple boards with knife hand and kicks, and then fighting off a 2 on 1 of 3rd dan blackbelts in sparring coming after her. She was getting exhausted, being constantly chased down by them and after about 3 minutes of SOLID hard core sparring (which is god drat exhausting even if it doesn't sound like much) the master said "score one more point and we'll call it" the crowd went full in cheering her on and about 15 seconds after she did an awesome high section punch on one of them, a 21 year old dude, and just landed it perfect. Snapped the guys head back and surprised him. The crowd of about 75-100 people, plus us students went nuts.

Was fantastic to watch something like that with a woman old enough to be a grandma to kick rear end.

and if she isn't receptive she would probably beat the poo poo out of you if she thought you had a thing for mom

Seriously though, it really was cool.

Most people in the martial arts are younger, but our club has a healthy population of 30+ of various belts so it's a ton of fun and we're pretty tight. Today for my test I was partnered with a 16-17 year old which is close to my height (although I probably outweigh him by 75+lbs) and to be fair he got a really good kick in on me in sparring because he's fast which got a good reaction from the crowd, but after that I was after him, blocking the hell out of him and then he was defensive but fun as hell.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

So one of GF's cats absolutely HATES the vacuum. She'll hiss at it if you're just moving it around (not plugged in, just moving it into the closet or something similar), and if you move it towards her, she goes into full on halloween cat mode.

I vacuumed today. She was... unhappy. I needed to put her back in the bedroom before leaving for work.

I made the mistake of picking her up while she was still a bit spooked..... and walking through the room with the vacuum (across the room at that point).

Not doing that again.

Randall's (our version of Safeway) had BOGO for 4x4" bandages and triple antibiotic ointment. Went ahead and got a tetanus shot while there, since (a) I'm way overdue and my Dr was already pushing me to get one, and (b) there's a very slight chance of getting it from a deep cat scratch (cat scratch fever is far more likely, but hey, been putting off the shot for awhile).

Since I handle a lot of food, I get to wear a glove on one hand (on top of bandages) for several days until this starts healing. I keep disposable latex gloves in the car (in case of a flat, insomnia-inspired oil changes, etc), so I've been wearing one all day.

Years ago I bought a bunch of small, plastic-coated neodymium magnets.

They don't mar the fridge or anything else I've used them on. They're small ones; small enough that they'll barely hold each other if you put one on each side of your hand (instead of crushing your hand), but they'll find any nail through drywall easily.

They'll fill the position, and easily. I took an 18k job right out of college half a lifetime ago, because my girlfriend at the time was finishing up school in the city, and because I didn't want to go without health insurance. I had a 3.8 GPA with two degrees under my belt. They offer crap wages because they'll still fill the position, because this country makes it an attractive option.

I'd love to see what the employee market would look like if we gave everyone medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage. If people could job-hunt without that hanging over them, employers would have to actually compete rather than being able to rely on people being desperate for any job. Throw a universal basic income in there too for added shareholder and CEO handwringing.

It would certainly get some boomers to retire and enable some upward mobility. The number of practically useless (not because of age necessarily, but laziness and refusal to learn new skills) employees at my job who hold off on retiring is pretty annoying to me, looking at my future options.

The number of people that are only staying in the job they have now for the health insurance is staggering. It is absolutely having an effect on our overall economy's productivity. I've got a couple friends that would go out on their own in entrepreneurial ventures, but the cost/risk of health care for their family is prohibitive.

I was looking at my records and my new employer-supplied coverage is roughly the same cost as what I was paying for Marketplace coverage. But the major difference is I'm now in an actual network and don't have to drive 2.5 hours to find a doctor that would take the Ambetter bullshit I was forced into.

One of the best days of my life was when I was about 4, we'd just moved into a new house like 3 months previously (how I know the general age) and they were developing the lot across the road and I watched 3 successive and increasingly macho-looking 1970's tow trucks get stuck in the swampy mud they were building on as they tried to rescue the previous tow truck. They finally got a semi tow truck to come yank all of the failed trucks the ~300m out to the road. Would still appreciate now, 40 years later.

A couple years ago one of my AI friends, ace, went to take his Toyota through the mud in my front yard and he got it buried to the frame. I figured I could get it out with my tractor with 4wd and rear locker. Nope, got that stuck too. Then took my dump truck and that had the leaf sucker still on it to try that and got that stuck too. I put out the bat signal to any of my friends with lifted trucks with huge tires. The down the street friend with a lifted Ford was able to pull the Toyota and my tractor out and Ace got the sucker truck out himself somehow. All together it started at like 1 in the afternoon and by 10 we had everything back on dry land. That day sucked but it's funny now.
