From memory, Mickie did beat LayCool and put them in their place... but in a symptom of an ongoing issue that would only get worse, the feud then bizarrely just picked up again like 2 weeks later for no real reason and LayCool basically came out on top that time. It was really, really weird and gross. I remember defending it at the time it first started because LayCool were clearly meant to be idiots and the notion that Mickie James was fat was ludicrous, but by the time they were done it was one of those,"THE END! NO MORAL!" situations. Jerusalem fucked around with this message at 02:29 on Dec 6, 2018 |

Not sure what the current situation is, but Lance Storm recently spoke about how when he came over to WWE post the WCW-Buyout, he was given a card and whenever he needed to get medical treatment in America he'd just hand it over and he'd never get any kind of bill. He didn't know the details of whatever plan or coverage he had, all he knew was,"I show them the card, they treat me, I don't get charged."

I really had high hopes at the time that the "gag" they were going for was that Billy and Chuck were just incredibly blind to the fact that people thought they were gay, because they were the best of friends who also weren't afraid to show affection to each other. Maybe not the best/most progressive angle, but certainly better than the terrible ending which turned out to be,"No no we were totally aware and actively pretending to be gay but we're totally straight and going into full on gay-panic mode now."

HHH of course, defended his sitting in by saying "But I didn't say anything while they were booking it." From memory, they had another feud some years later and Booker insisted he be allowed to sit in on the booking meetings... the end result was him getting beaten clean by HHH yet again.

To be fair, I recall people saying at the time of the Eddie's in Hell! thing that Rey was totally fine with it and thought Eddie would have enjoyed being part of a storyline even after he died. Then a few months ago I heard him on a podcast saying,"Yeah, it wasn't cool at all and I didn't like doing it, but WWE just kept pushing it on me."

Pope Corky the IX posted:EDIT: Ahahahaha, it was actually MassRafTer himself. This is pretty great, haha Obviously he changed his mind over time (that's okay!) plus once the weight of evidence of other horrible poo poo they've done becomes so apparent it really is hard to give them the benefit of the doubt even about things you once thought were at least understandable. I certainly felt at the time and for years afterwards that it wasn't appropriate for me to critique this company who knew Owen far better and more personally than I ever could or would, and that in the immediate shock they probably weren't thinking straight. Unfortunately, there is a pretty clear and distinct pattern from WWE (and particularly Vince) that indicates that this was a more callous and calculated act or at least further evidence of a pretty skewed morality. Not least of all because Vince seems to apply a perverse logic of,"Whatever I would be happy to do or have done to me should be perfectly okay for me to do to everybody else as well" without ever considering the massive power imbalance of his own position of authority, power and wealth. MRT's quote is still pretty hilarious in the context of this thread though

When the NY 64 started I figured Crown Jewel would run away with it. That Ringboy stuff really threw me for a loop, like others I'd heard only very loose descriptions of it in the past filtered through the idea that a lot of was beat-up as a homophobic attack on Pat Patterson. Learning more about what actually went down was pretty horrific. I don't doubt that Benoit would rank highly in a "worst person" ranking, but I'm sure there are plenty of others who could easily be argued as being much worse.

I think the Shawn Michaels of today would absolutely agree with you. He was a petty, egocentric piece of poo poo who got away with almost everything thanks to both being legitimately one of the best wrestlers of all time AND being in place when Vince McMahon/WWF was at its most vulnerable. Even today there's still a bit of a whiff of narcissism/self-aggrandizement about him and how "humble" he is but I doubt anybody would argue that he isn't a better person now than he was in the 90s.
