The ground floor. 2018 was a good year. I got to enjoy my hobby more which is what I wanted to do. Ended up getting three new RC cars which is awesome. 2019 I want to make an excellent one. This will be the year I import a Japanese car thanks to KakerMix’s addictive thread. I’ll get a vasectomy. I don’t anticipate getting any more RCs but build the ones I have cooler. I want to get to cars and coffee more often though this year I did get to quite a few which was nice.

NYE was pretty chill. Took the kids sledding in the morning. Did some shopping; target had 70%-90% off on all their Christmas stuff. That included junk food; so I bought some snickers and Reese’s peanut butter cups. They had those giant 2 pack 1/2 pound Reese’s cups for $3, so I bought them for my brothers because I’m a good brother. Kids went to bed normal time. Wife and I stayed up a bit and she went to bed. I fired up the Switch and tried this Smash Bros thing I bought yesterday and spent a lot of time confused how it all worked. Heard some fireworks at some point. My best life y’all.

NitroSpazzz posted:Spent the day car shopping for the Mrs. Carmax for a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, pretty nice. Then Toyota dealership for a 2015 Highlander which was really nice. Mazda CX9 at a mazda dealership with stereotypical rear end in a top hat salesman was decent but we shouldn't have driven it after the Toyota. Negotiated on the Highlander but they wouldn't come down the last $500 to make the deal after they bumped the price up $1k and didn't think we'd notice. Think we're test driving another Pathfinder tomorrow, non-base package this time. A Lexus of some sort is probably the reasonable answer. If you’re willing to do domestic then check out the Flex. The ecoboost models are top trim, AWD and have a good bit of shove. The middle seats when equipped with captains chairs are very nice. We’ve had ours three years and 30k miles. Pretty happy overall. It’s polarizing to look at which makes it fun for me. The panoramic glass roof makes it feel less cavernous. The hvac cranks for whatever you need.

My wife said the same RE: looks and then she drove one. For us it was a Flex or a minivan. She says she still doesn’t like how it looks. Whenever I ask what she’d rather be driving she admits defeat and has no suggestions She says as soon as car seat phase is over she wants an X5 or G-wagen. I’m frankly good with either of those options.

slurry_curry posted:It seems very un-AI, and young me would hate me for even considering it, but I kinda want a convertible e46 m3, and worse of all, with the SMG transmission. Since I got rid of my miata, I kinda miss having a convertible for the summer, and my wife loved the convertible part of it, but hated getting in and out of it. I don't plan on tracking it or anything like that, so it would stay pretty much stock. And its new/safe enough with a backseat, so I can haul the kid around if needed. Having the SMG would make it more pleasant to drive in the horrible traffic that is pretty much 24x7 in seattle now and still be enough fun on backroads. I need to do more research about the failure methods, but I feel like its something I can deal with. Dude just get one. If the weather where you live is conducive to a convertible get one and enjoy it. I would tell you to instead go for the E93 because as a convertible it’s better in every measurable way. You would also be shocked at the prices they are trading hands at these days. The DCT makes the SMG look positively archaic and bad.

You Am I posted:Went for a walk after work around some forest trails near my place and came across this lad: Echidnas are so friggin cute. I remember during my time in Tasmania seeing one waddling across the road in a rural area (probably Beaconsfield or Beauty point) and I had to pull over and stop to check him out. Me and my buddy had never seen one in the wild. That Reddit thread seems suspect, but stupid is pretty common. The thought of joyriding a customers car when you literally work in a store where fast dumb subarus are everywhere doesn't make sense. For that person to also be a manager also doesn't play out. A comfortable ranking job is better than any joy ride. I have a similar sentiment as a former FedEx delivery driver. People accusing their UPS/FedEx/Mail person as someone who "probably stole their package" I can tell you they didn't. There is nothing in a brown box worth risking a paying job over. Similar should be considered over a dumb subaru. Maybe it was some low ranking lot lizard sure, but the manager? Nah.

If anyone is looking for a true crime podcast may I suggest "Cold". It is a locally produced one about a missing person/presumed murdered Susan Powell. It has been covered by others, Sword and Scale did a two parter on it but this is definitely better. There are never before released audio clips, police notes, interviews, etc. The podcast has not yet completed but there are I think eight episodes. It is well done, and some of the details are so bizarre. EDIT to not double post like a chump: https://www.ksl.com/article/46466208/police-blame-bird-box-challenge-for-crash-in-layton quote:Police are investigating a crash earlier this week that they believe was tied to the viral “Bird Box Challenge,” which involves having your eyes covered while performing tasks. These are the same people chewing on Tide Pods. We all do stupid things as kids, but this is something else. Somewhat Heroic fucked around with this message at 19:34 on Jan 11, 2019 |

Finally spent some time looking at the new Supra and reading about it. People sure are mad, but I think it is pretty neat outside of the auto-only option. Manual would be cool, double clutch would be better. The price point seems quite reasonable given how so many other cars are shooting up into unobtainable price points. As a ~$50K car I can't say it is bad. The interior and seats look like a nice place to be.

You forget how good an automotive show can be when there is no budget limit in sight. The artistic directing and editing are worthy of a full length feature film. The rest of the season is going to be wild. Spoilers for episode specific details: I really loved how they played on the Marvel intro scene for the cuts between the Detroit clips. I don't think I realized how much of a mess Detroit is. It is like an UrbEx paradise. So much history and industry just left their slowly being reclaimed by the earth is wild to see. I would nearly have thought some of those shots were from Pripyat, not anywhere in the US. Also at the Hiroshima joke. Rhyno posted:I need an Instapot. Holy moly QC. That is a lot to digest. You’re a quality human, and it’s bull those who should be closest to you and care for you seem to suck quite bad at it. I have no suggestions, just sympathy from a random internet person.

I buy whatever is the ~$150 vacuum from Costco. I have a wife and daughter. Their hair will kill anything in five years. So who really cares? Not spending the $1200 for the central vac rough in is only one of a handful of regrets when we built our house. Two floors of 2000+ sqft kind of sucks with a regular vac.

My wife and my girlfriend are besties, and they decided that she should move in with us. I expected a much more complicated explanation with a lot more drama but that is remarkably easy. Good for you all. If consenting adults can get along in whatever fashion that is then let them have it. That doesn't affect me personally. If it interferes with the lives of others then I would probably have a problem with it. Not that I am the kind of person that could do what you are doing, I know way too many women that are close friends of my wife who can't find a decent person to be with. If there was any situation where they could have that then how good for them it would be. Fun fact: I am a product of polygamy (not my parents, but ancestors)
