Man, I love it! I love it. I love it. I love it. It's the best thing poo poo ever invented. Isn't it, huh? I love the name alone. NyQuil - Capitol N, small Y, big loving Q! I love that loving Q, don't you!? What a great advertising idea! Put a huge loving Q on the box. They'll get high and stare at it. "The Q is talking to me! The Q is talking to me!"

Rhyno posted:I pulled a toilet out yesterday so I could finish laying the vinyl flooring. I discovered the floor flange was cracked and a small piece was missing. My initial googling lead me to a fairly complicated repair involving cutting out the old flange (and upper pvc) and then gluing in the new flange all the while being very careful to not break the pipe or cut too deep. I wasn't too enthused about undertaking this task but I steeled myself and started preparing. Was looking at $150+ for parts and a saw that could do the job. Finally moving into my gaff at the start of the year I am also finding most diy jobs around the place very simple and easy to do

mungtor posted:It's still going to be boring as poo poo to drive because your only transmission option is an 8-speed automatic, which is pretty much unforgivable in a $60,000 "sports car". It will be interesting to see how many actually sell (or if anybody notices) since most people don't actually know how to drive anymore, but I suspect that when the hype settles most of them will rot on the showroom floor Toyota will say "huh, guess people don't want sports cars anymore" and go back to cranking out Camrys and SUVs. That zf 8speed auto is a perfectly suitable gearbox for a sporty car with only 350hp or so.

KYOON GRIFFEY JR posted:there have been really good implementations of the ZF 8HP, just lol that FCA of all companies has managed to do a better job of it than BMW Yeah this. I can think of loads of cars where it's a great gearbox but also loads of cars where it is a bit disappointing. It's all down to how well the manufacturer sets up it's control strategy, but that's got little to do with the gearbox itself

Nidhg00670000 posted:Is this because manufacturers are thinking it'll be cheaper to make their own "mapping" of the gearbox, or does ZF simply not provide any services in that regard? That gearbox sits behind pretty much everything from diesel 4cyls to twin turbo v12s. It's up to the manufacturer to make their cars drive how they want them to.

I feel like people have itt have never driven a performance car with the zf box in it. Obviously most of my experience with it comes from it's applications in Aston Martins where in a GT car like the db11 it is a perfect blend of performance, comfort, and driveability, but even in the new vantage it has plenty of capability and the block shifting is a really good feature. It's not the best gearbox but it's a really good gearbox even though something like a vantage would be better off with a dct

If the battery is really low on charge it will need a few minutes to absorb enough to start the car. If it's stone dead it's likely that it won't be able to take anything and is hosed. What's the voltage of your flat battery?

MomJeans420 posted:Re: vacuum chat - I had a Roomba around 8 years ago, but my German Shepherd figured out how to stop it by hitting it with his paw, then my Great Dane absolutely destroyed it once it had been stopped, so I never really saw how well it worked. Both those dogs are dead so I bought a Roomba 690 a few months ago. I'm honestly amazed at how poor the programming is on the thing, I wouldn't even consider it a functional robot vacuum. And that's after making sure to "Roomba proof" the house - it loves to get into the bathroom then close the door on itself, locking it in, so I have to close the bathroom door or prop it open with something. If it hits my back door (I leave it open all day for my dogs) it goes off the lip/ledge and gets stuck, so you have to put a rolled up towel down to keep it from going that direction. It also seemingly randomly can't find its way back to the base, even when I have half the house blocked off with the IR virtual wall they give you. When you get into a routine with it, it does help keep the pet hair and dirt down, but it sounds like I should have gone with someone other than iRobot. My wife thinks it was a waste of money, I think it does have a use, but I really thought they would have been farther along in their algorithms by now. Never seen a Dyson that was any good. Overpriced gimmicky rubbish. Just get a Henry ffs
