GF just started loudly started proclaiming her love for Nyquil at the top of her lungs. I think she went by the old "if a little is good, a lot is much better" dosing guide. :catdrugs:

Robotripping on Nyquil is not something you should do if you like your kidneys, liver, or contents of your stomach. Instead, you should find the cough-only version of the grocery store brand of cough syrup (the one with only [chemical I'm not going to type out because this isn't TCC]) (and even then, why are you robotripping once you're out of high school?). But hey, she's in the middle of babby's first robotrip. Which means I get to play trip sitter crash on the couch and zone out to the TV. And very likely I'll get to call her boss in an hour and a half to explain why she won't be at work. At least I'm friends with her boss... and her boss and I have a bit in common with, uh, our chemical usage histories. GF is on thin ice due to taking so much time off for being sick without a doctor's note though (she absolutely refuses to go to a doctor unless she's literally dying... pretty sure she has strep, and almost 3/4 of her department has been calling out sick for several days now, for strep.. and oh my mom and stepdad both have strep after our visit.... I don't have tonsils, so my chances of getting strep are a bit diminished, but I've been sick as poo poo too.. TWICE.. got well, then got sick again with something different, finally getting over that. And I feel something else coming on. :fuckoff:)

tl;dr can you guys please pee in the well some more so long as she's the one in it?

e: I looked at the bottle of (store brand) nyquil, there's not nearly enough missing from it to warrant an OHSHIT, GET EMS FOR ACETAMINOPHEN OD. The cough suppressant ingredient very much affects people differently based on their weight, she's <110 lbs soaking wet. So even a "normal" adult dose would have her borderline robotripping.

I love NyQuil. Man, I love it! I love it. I love it. I love it. It's the best thing poo poo ever invented. Isn't it, huh? I love the name alone. NyQuil - Capitol N, small Y, big loving Q! I love that loving Q, don't you!? What a great advertising idea! Put a huge loving Q on the box. They'll get high and stare at it. "The Q is talking to me! The Q is talking to me!"

I missed this earlier but here's some stuff about Poland and Gdansk:

You can safely speed up to 10kph over the limit without getting into trouble with the police. That said, you can't get your license revoked for speeding on motorways (and the fine isn't particularly severe for Westerners/people with well-paying jobs) so you will frequently see people hauling rear end at autobahn speeds, so be aware if you're in the left lane that it's possible someone will come screaming up behind you at waaayyyy over the speed limit. There's also an app called Yanosik (which can be set to English) that allows people to mark where they see speed traps, police, traffic accidents etc. - keep it running while you're driving and it will alert you to any of those things coming up on your route. It's obviously not infallible but it does work pretty well.

Also be aware that they don't gently caress around when it comes to drinking and driving - unless you're a big guy, one drink will put you in pretty serious trouble and two is pretty much an automatic prison sentence. I've heard of a fair few foreigners who go to Poland thinking they can bribe their way out of stuff or that they'll get a pass in the otherwise pretty pro-alcohol country but they really have a zero tolerance policy on this. Don't be tempted!

As for Gdansk, it's a pretty cool city that has some fairly profound historic and cultural significance for Poland and eastern Europe as a whole. The Solidarity movement started there that eventually broke the Russian stranglehold on the Eastern Bloc and contributed significantly to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union in general. There's a museum about it called the European Solidarity Centre that is supposedly worth a visit, though I haven't been personally. I have however been to the Gdansk WWII museum which is great, I highly recommend it. Another fun museum to visit is the amber museum which is housed in the old city's torture chamber building. It's a weird combo, you can see lots of cool amber-related stuff like prehistoric animals trapped in amber, or a Fender Stratocaster made from the stuff, as well as lots of elaborate torture equipment. It's a small place but pretty cool. Lastly, as someone already said, go check out the main square of the old town and get a picture by the fountain, otherwise you haven't officially touristed the place :)

Sopot is another city that's close enough to be basically considered a part of Gdansk, it's more of a leisure beach and party town, in the summer it's like a Polish Ibiza. Loads of great bars, clubs and strip clubs. It has a big pier.

Here are some of my favourite places to eat:
https://www.gdanskibowke.com/en/ my favourite restaurant in Gdansk, really good Polish and German-style food in a traditional setting.
http://goldwasser.pl/en/restaurant/ on the riverfront, if you like your food hoity-toity or the company is paying for dinner then this is the place for you.
https://pierogarnia-mandu.pl/en/about-us/ Polish dumplings are goooood, and this place knows how to make 'em.
http://zafishowani.pl/en/ Another high end place but specialising in freshly-caught local fish.
There's also a pirate ship that is a bar where a live band sings sea shanties. Fun place but closed over the winter.

Hope some of this was useful. Have fun!

I pulled a toilet out yesterday so I could finish laying the vinyl flooring. I discovered the floor flange was cracked and a small piece was missing. My initial googling lead me to a fairly complicated repair involving cutting out the old flange (and upper pvc) and then gluing in the new flange all the while being very careful to not break the pipe or cut too deep. I wasn't too enthused about undertaking this task but I steeled myself and started preparing. Was looking at $150+ for parts and a saw that could do the job.

And then I spent more than 3 minutes searching and I discovered they make a repair/replace unit that goes directly over the broken one and fits under the toiler with zero clearance issues. And there's even one with a rubber cone that seals up against the toilet to double the protection the normal wax seal gives. And it's $18. Currently sitting here with a cider and surveying my newly placed flange repair and am pretty thrilled with how easy this was to do.

Finally moving into my gaff at the start of the year I am also finding most diy jobs around the place very simple and easy to do

It's still going to be boring as poo poo to drive because your only transmission option is an 8-speed automatic, which is pretty much unforgivable in a $60,000 "sports car". It will be interesting to see how many actually sell (or if anybody notices) since most people don't actually know how to drive anymore, but I suspect that when the hype settles most of them will rot on the showroom floor Toyota will say "huh, guess people don't want sports cars anymore" and go back to cranking out Camrys and SUVs.

That zf 8speed auto is a perfectly suitable gearbox for a sporty car with only 350hp or so.

there have been really good implementations of the ZF 8HP, just lol that FCA of all companies has managed to do a better job of it than BMW

Yeah this. I can think of loads of cars where it's a great gearbox but also loads of cars where it is a bit disappointing. It's all down to how well the manufacturer sets up it's control strategy, but that's got little to do with the gearbox itself

Is this because manufacturers are thinking it'll be cheaper to make their own "mapping" of the gearbox, or does ZF simply not provide any services in that regard?

That gearbox sits behind pretty much everything from diesel 4cyls to twin turbo v12s. It's up to the manufacturer to make their cars drive how they want them to.

I feel like people have itt have never driven a performance car with the zf box in it. Obviously most of my experience with it comes from it's applications in Aston Martins where in a GT car like the db11 it is a perfect blend of performance, comfort, and driveability, but even in the new vantage it has plenty of capability and the block shifting is a really good feature. It's not the best gearbox but it's a really good gearbox even though something like a vantage would be better off with a dct

Re: vacuum chat - I had a Roomba around 8 years ago, but my German Shepherd figured out how to stop it by hitting it with his paw, then my Great Dane absolutely destroyed it once it had been stopped, so I never really saw how well it worked. Both those dogs are dead so I bought a Roomba 690 a few months ago. I'm honestly amazed at how poor the programming is on the thing, I wouldn't even consider it a functional robot vacuum. And that's after making sure to "Roomba proof" the house - it loves to get into the bathroom then close the door on itself, locking it in, so I have to close the bathroom door or prop it open with something. If it hits my back door (I leave it open all day for my dogs) it goes off the lip/ledge and gets stuck, so you have to put a rolled up towel down to keep it from going that direction. It also seemingly randomly can't find its way back to the base, even when I have half the house blocked off with the IR virtual wall they give you. When you get into a routine with it, it does help keep the pet hair and dirt down, but it sounds like I should have gone with someone other than iRobot. My wife thinks it was a waste of money, I think it does have a use, but I really thought they would have been farther along in their algorithms by now.

My Dyson is almost 12 years old and just this past weekend the roller brushes stopped working, after doing some research I ended up going with a relatively cheap Shark Navigator Professional. It has a 5 year warranty, so even if I have to buy a new one every 5 years, it will still be cheaper than a new Dyson or a Miele. I don't have carpet so I don't think I need that extra power, but I do have tons of dog hair and the wire cutter guide said that bagged vacuums fill up fast with lots of pet hair.

Never seen a Dyson that was any good. Overpriced gimmicky rubbish. Just get a Henry ffs
