What ended up working for me was relocating the PDM to the front bumper on a heat sink. I found a kit that had the wire extension, heat sink, and new PDM on Amazon. The PDM will still die but not as often and it is easier to change out. You will want to abuse the warranty on the new PDM but most of the time the company didn't fight over it. Buying a second PDM to change out on the side of the road might also be a good idea for when it leaves you stranded again.

Sounds like it acts like an old Ford starter solenoid. If that's the case, I'd say definitely keep a spare on hand.
