I'll save my thoughts for later in the day when more people have seen it, I'm so excited to see people's response to this episode and also all of them

Here's an extremley wild thing tho

quote:

The staff’s keen on exceeding the quality of season one and we have many reasons to believe they’ll achieve their goal. As described by Masahiko Minami, studio BONES’ president and producer of Mob Psycho 100 Season 2, “the young animators who like to make things move have gathered around director Tachikawa and Kameda-kun, and the atmosphere at the studio is very intense, as if this were a newly founded company“. If the PVs still haven’t convinced you that we’re in for a very special experience, Kameda’s own words channel the same sentiment: “you haven’t seen the good parts yet.”

and i totally believe that, that opening has one part that keeps blowing me away

You saw the OP it's going to happen.

Speaking of which the new OP is insane and I hope the new ED is a bleed in cause those are always cool. That's what I thought it was when the music started.

If Mob was in a Persona game, he’d obliterate whatever form humanity’s subconscious anxieties took that week, then go home and think about his lifting posture.

Seconding this being a drat good first episode. It really does feel great to watch him slowly grow into a more well-rounded person.

Neat thing about the OP:

This is imitating an old style of animation where you apply a strobe to a spinning sculpture, and create the illusion of movement:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZpuog8Q4IQ

This shot is a Moire animation.

"The moire effect is an optical illusion created by parallel lines crossing over each other in the field of view; you can use this effect to make looping animations"

Speaking of lifting, I only picked up the show recently and I really love how the Body Improvement Club low-key seems to embody all of the show's ideals. Mob's big, swole, happily self-actualized bros.

I just love that Ritsu is genuinely supportive of his older brother, caring that he might have been bummed out by the election, but genuinely happy for his brother when he was instead in a good mood. this show is v. wholesome

I have to say, I was kind of expecting a "Starting over from zero" type beginning, but that episode put into pretty stark terms how Mob has matured, gradual though it may be, from season 1

Yeah Mob has for sure grown. Not only do we never see his emotional meter never actually tick up, but in the fight with the field spirit, he exerts his will over other living things. Even if they are just plants, he's being authoritative and confident to protect what he cares about.

Just like life, growth isn't strictly linear, we mature and we fall and we resolve to do better. Mob knows that he has emotions and I'd say he's been subconsciously letting them guide him ever since his first fight with Koyama, but now he's determined to listen to them more in his daily life

I love Mob, he's gonna be great

I feel like 12 episodes would be good, but honestly couldn't say given how much they're cool about moving stuff around. The first scene in this episode was from a few chapters after the story with Emi and like, the second episode of Season 1 was mostly stuff from around this time in the manga.

I'm also not sure how sustainable this level of quality is for a two cour season. I'd love for it to finish this year but I'll take a finale in 2022 for the sake of these young animators health

This adaption has been completely perfect tho so im not worried

E: I am now 100% convinced there will be a third season so the last OP can be called 101

e2: here's this week's big shots compared to the manga. I don't want this to be some dunk on ONE's art, because it's really cool in it's own way, I love how the plant spirit looks, but mostly to show much Bones is doing here

Huh, it's still not on MAL. Don't think I've seen it mentioned at Sakugablog or any of the other outlets I usually frequent. Weird, you'd think that'd be nailed down for now with a big popular shounen piece.
