I still don't know why DC greenlit the horrible trainwreck and awful idea that is Heroes in a Crisis.

X-O posted:I think putting Batman in charge of an AI designed to help people get over trauma is a great idea because if there's anyone that's shown the ability to get over trauma it's good ol' Bats. It also seems to be, like many of the things in this comic series, just mean spirited.

Vince MechMahon posted:I always interpreted it as his black and white world view being completely shattered. Yes he knows he can't win against Manhattan, but he also knows that a situation as complex as the one he's in just doesn't work with how he views the world. He knows that he's going to get killed, if not by Manhattan by Ozy, and chooses to go out as close to his own terms as he can get: with a futile symbolic gesture of resistance. Ozy had no intention of killing Rorschach. He even states it's fine to let him go, cause very few will believe him if he even makes it back to civilization from the ice fields. Manhattan kills him anyway, and lies about it to Ozy. And I don't think Rorschach knew he was a dead man until he saw Manhattan appear in front of him when he left.

Admiralty Flag posted:If the truth about the plan is unimportant after the teleportation happens, then why does Adrian kill his manservants? (True, he poisons them before he activates the teleporter but he could have just given them knockout drops to prevent any possible interference; good butlers are hard to find.) Why does Moore have the entire last page of the comic hinge on the potential threat of Seymour reading the journal? Rorschach is a loony that no one believes or listens to. Veidt even says that is why him leaving makes no difference. Jon tells him that Rorschach went into the Ice Fields and that it's unlikely that he will make it back to civilization. To which Veidt says it's a shame, but does not really change anything.

Everytime a writer talks about "making their mark" on the character I tend to think "wonder what they are going to do screw the character up."

Well gently caress I am bummed now. I was hoping that maybe Wally's plan in Heroes 9 would undo everything that happened. It did not, so now Wally is basically ruined as a character. Heroes in a Crisis what an awful awful awful idea. Edit:gently caress this more apparently King views this as something that elevates the character. Tom King posted:That said, I face this time and again, this is kind of what I do. I tear down heroes to their essential components and build them back up. I mean, to the first page in Mister Miracle, he's bleeding out, he's cut his own wrist. The first issue of Omega Man, Kyle Rainer gets his neck chopped open, the first issue of The Vision has his daughter being stabbed through the heart, right? The arrogance is astounding. No wonder I felt right to fear whatever his massive status quo change for Batman is, that will make his "mark" on the character. Anyway I refuse to support any books written by him anymore. Mandibular Fiasco posted:I just finished Volume 1, too, and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the exhausted Batman tremendously. I like the art a lot - but Jim Aparo’s art was my first Batman when reading as a kid, so I have a different connection to the art. I still think Bane’s costume is ridiculous, though. I like Bane's original outfit. It's simple and works well. chaosapiant posted:So I’m about 60 pages (the first issue) into volume 1 of the Knightfall Omnibus. I’m already hooked. The art is a bit dated (not nearly as much as Death in the Family) but the writing is super punchy and to the point. Bane is immediately a much more interesting character than I believe he’d be. I dig him and see him, as he’s written, as a protagonist in a way. Or at least someone I want to root for. I like how they spent the time to delve into his backstory. I’m pumped to see where this goes. Yeah he's much less of a brute then you would think he is.

It's part of the reason he wrote The Return of Barry Allen, to completely stomp out the idea that Barry was coming back. Great Thawne story too. Via actually giving him a motive for his crazy evil.

Xelkelvos posted:There are definitely a few villains who'd be at the top of the list in having a take over of Wayne Enterprises be interesting, but Joker is about at the same place as Clayface and Man-Bat in terms of interesting stories. Hush has ostensibly done it once already for a short period, but obviously not up to the full potential. Riddler would definitely be up there as an interesting arc. Same with any of the al-Ghuls though it'd seem superfluous given their own stockpile of assets. Bane would've been good if not for the fact that King just did a story where he took over Gotham. The Penguin might be an interesting one, but I feel like stories about old Gotham family stuff is just very tired at this point. Any other interesting villains doing it would be from someone outside Batman's Rogue's gallery like Luthor maybe It would make sense for Black Mask to do it. He got powers from Luthor recently that lets him change his mask into other faces.

It was in a Scarecrow episode. Batman talks to a Doctor there who says they have all the villains locked up right now calling them Oswald Copplepot, Harvey Dent and Jack Napier "Who you call Penguin, Two-Face, and the Joker." Before Batman accuses Scarecrow of being the guilty party, and the doctor says that Professor Crane is still locked up.

Kind of wish the Black and Whites alliance had remained a thing. It was a Gotham crime lord alliance between Great White Shark, Black Mask and Penguin. But it was pretty much just dropped, Don't know what GWS is up to, but Black Mask and Penguin have been doing other things.

RHatO's new writer is Shawn Martinbrough and it's Jason back in Gotham in The Hill neighborhood which seems to be styled as a majority minority borough that's not quite hit the gentrification Burnside did in Batgirl but might be there in a few years. It seems to be going back to street level stuff, themed gangs, and the heaviest hitter that showed up is Killer Croc Though the Suicide Squad is more being rebranded as the same team is going to be back under a new name.
