I'LL PUT MY SCIENCE IN ALL OF YOU!
I just picked this game up last week and I'm hooked. Have restarted a bunch of times as I learn the various systems and get further into the progression to try and learn from mistakes and plan ahead better. My most recent game I went straight for Crown Falls to make a megacity, but I realized around the time I hit Engineers that Gasparov is an annoying rear end in a top hat to have as an AI and I should have just stopped at Bente and Willy. He expanded fast, bullying the two 1 star AIs, dropping flyers on my population to piss them off with his airships, buying shares in my islands to try and buy them out.

So I got up to where I had 6 ship-of-the-line and 3 battle cruisers and figured it's time to get rid of Artur. Boy, wars sure go on for awhile huh? :haw: I put in about 6 hours last night which was mostly doing war and letting my islands do their thing in the background (I have a lot of trade route repairs to make. Crown Falls fur coats are in trouble). I got him out of Trelawney and New World and still have to deal with his most built up defenses in the Old World where he owns 7 of the islands. And Enbesa, which I haven't done much with so who knows what's going on there.

I declared this war to see how it would go with the intention of save scumming if it's terrible. But after 6 hours of whack-a-mole, I'm dedicated to kicking him out of my game.

I should probably just restart though. My first Crown Falls game prior to this I made the mistake of adding in Margaret Hunt and restarted pretty quickly after she declared war and took out my two underdeveloped NW colonies.

Since I'm new I wanted to try a game with a tougher AI but my first Crown Falls run with Margaret went about how you'd expect, and this restart I figured ok just one 2-star AI with Gasparov and it's exhausting. I figured let's try war, I want to see how the game's systems work. But literally 6 hours it took just to wipe him out of two sessions and I still have him owning most of the Old World and half of Enbesa to deal with, all while he's sending single battle cruisers back into the zones I booted him from so he can snipe the undeveloped islands I took from him.

This current game was about a week's worth of building up but I'm already considering restarting either with no AI or just the pushovers like Bente and Qing. The late game plate spinning and micro is stressful enough without Artur's propaganda bombs and trying to buy out my islands.

I'm also running into a thing where I really should offload a lot of my industries and farms to other islands to free up space and make it less ugly, smelly, and polluted in Crown Falls but get serious AP scrolling around the map trying to plan this out.

I haven't picked up Docklands yet (was going off the aggregate opinion of a couple "DLC tier list" videos I watched so I picked and chose what I wanted to add on). It seems almost OP if you manage it right.

I like playing with 1 star AIs because you can let them expand if you want and they give quests for an early game cash boost and make the world feel a little less empty. They will never attack you, but if you do want to wipe someone off the map with your giant warfleet you can always declare war on them. IIRC as long as you keep them reasonably friendly (very easy if you keep doing their quests) they won't settle islands without asking you first.

Artur has been at war with Willy for most of this game and it's been really funny when Willy asks me to settle some tiny nothing island, I say yes, and then Artur immediately beelines a fleet over to take it from him.

Funny but also really annoying that in my war effort I've had to also take these rinky dink islands from him now.

I'm finally getting around to messing with Enbesa. What exactly am I supposed to do for this quest where the directions are "Shop around for Research Institute proposals: Architects at Ketema's Harbour"?

I think I hate this extremely long questline.

I have Anne Harlow up to 61 reputation and I cannot get Trade Rights or Non-Aggression to be anything but "Zero" chance. There is a yellow warning triangle on these options on the diplomacy screen, which I've never seen before. I can't for the life of me find anything online to explain this. What's causing it?

Man the plate spinning is getting rough on my current run and I'm not even to investors yet. How in God's name are you meant to provide enough rum for these thirsty rear end bougies in a Crown Falls megacity?

Also firing up the research institute for the first time and realizing there are entire production chains that means I have to unfuck my haphazard Enbesa production chains and I was so overwhelmed last night I just closed the game instead.

poo poo, I might just restart again and get Docklands. This is becoming a sickness. At least I can skip the Enbesa quest line next time right?

This game is so chill and G-rated for the most part, it always takes me aback and gives me a chuckle when the sailor dude yells "GNASH YER FUCKIN' CUTLASS" during an Expedition encounter.

I'm like 90% sure this isn't what he says but it's 100% what I'm hearing.

Must...resist...the urge to restart again. I'm gonna make this work. I just need to set up every major island in Trelawney to be production chain hell islands. Got some work to do.

You can get a specialist at Eli's that lets you skip 3 of the High Life chains.

And then you realise one is a lifestyle need for the New World

And then you install a mod that makes another also a lifestyle need

And then you think "well I'm using a town hall slot to skip a single chain, might as well set it back up and free the slot"

:shepicide:

Who is it? I have the power of science to get any specialist I want now.

Why is it that airships sometimes use the docklands/pier/trading post and sometimes 3 of them line up at the airship platform and gently caress up the timing of my trade routes despite the fact I have plenty of the latter options open for them to load/unload at?

Hell Island, let's turn up the heat! poo poo all my trade routes are full as is my Docklands. Make more cargo ships. poo poo, I'm out of steam engines due to elevator manufacturing!

I think I accidentally accepted one of Ketema's quests on this new run I'm doing. I'm sitting at 1583/300 Elders to start building the Research Institute. Am I hosed into doing all the Enbesa poo poo before I can fire this thing up?

My last playthrough I canceled his quests and was able to do the institute as soon as I had enough elders but I must have clicked something. The other sessions are self sustaining for now so I guess I’ll try and burn through this.
