"Blanching vegetables is bad, because soaking in cold water after cooking makes them watery. If you boil vegetables all the way through and then let them stand they’ll overcook, so boil them until just BEFORE they’re ready and let them finish with residual heat." Uh. Somebody has never experienced the glory that is blanched green beans reheated in duck fat. Mmmmm, duck fat. In any case, you don't soak blanched vegetables, or I don't. Either run tap water over them or a quick dip into a bowl of ice and water.

Apart from "physical health" magazines and pulp novels, there was no mass marketing to gay people in the 1950s. They weren't a profitable audience, and were seen as not only perverted but rare.

RandomFerret posted:Remember, it is very unlikely that you have actually been cancelled and everybody knows it but you. There is almost zero chance that every friend you've lost touch with over the last few years has actually found out about the thing you were accused of and decided that you're a scumbag and cut you off intentionally. Don't worry about all the jobs and other professional opportunities you applied for and never heard anything back from over the years. It is very unlikely that they all googled your name and found out about some unnamed horrific impropriety that you yourself were unaware of. Don't even waste your time thinking about it in the middle of the night, your anxiety building up until it feels like a snake coiling your throat. Well, thanks for that thought.
