Yeah, that's what I mean, it seems like Modi had these big plans that are right now on indefinite pause from the pandemic, possibly never to be resumed. Maybe after the devastation of an estimated 4 million deaths, Modi's a bit shy about trying to remove 200 million muslims from the country.

I'm a little curious what the ideological objection is to the periodic table, of all things. I know the Vedas sometimes allude to a system of five elements similar to the classical Greek ones, but has Hindu fundamentalism really gone that far?

Apparently, this reorganisation isn't just deleting things, but shifting them around. So the periodic table will be taught one year earlier, while evolution will be taught one year later. Possibly some sincere pedagogical reason for this, but also possibly backloading a bunch of less-approved-of topics to after a certain average number of students have left school.
