I'm starting to think there wasn't a consistent cipher with the Pokémon text earlier. They're definitely using English as the base language and the e seems to have consistently been the 3 slash marks, but it's very possible the designers just went with characters that looked close enough.

Sun and Moon changed up the formula for the series. Ash enrolled in a Pokemon school and so they focus more on characters and day to day life since they're not travelling around to gyms. It's still a kid's show but it's at least doing something original.

The Pokemon Pass app is live. You need to log in at Pokemon.com with a trainer club account then approve the usage of Pokemon Pass in settings to be able to use it. https://www.pokemon.com/us/app/pokemon-pass/ The app requires location services which might be their way of making sure people actually go to a store.
