I probably watch Aliens about 20 times a year. If I'm doing something on my computer I'll just put it on in the background and let it play. The director's cut has some great and very important scenes that they cut out. Like the entire reason why they went to LV-426 in the first place!!! Also the turret scene is great. It starts the beginning of the tension of them being hunted down while they're holed up.

Why aren't you watching Aliens right now?


This is also an excuse to bring up one of the best actors of all time. Bill Paxton. I was very upset to see him go, and it was due to complications from surgery. It was not his time and the dear lord stole him from us.




Paxton's character, Pvt Hudson, almost stole the movie if it wasn't a piece of god drat perfection in itself. He was the ultimate badass.

Aliens is a perfectly exquisite meal that one can enjoy over and over without it being diminished in any way. I could probably recite the script to at least half the film and yet I'm never bored of watching it. It's the cinematic equivalent of a pint of beer, you've had countless ones before but the next one is just as good. Yes it's both great food and great beer.

Also the only thing decent from the Directors Cut is the sentry scenes, the rest just screws up the pacing and overexplains stuff.

Different kind of fear. The first film is essentially a slasher movie, with an unstoppable killer ready to strike from the shadows at any time. The second is more like a zombie film, where the threat from an individual creature is manageable, the problem is there's no way to kill them all. Personally, I like films like Aliens and Predator 2 that do something a bit different rather than just do the first film again.

Speaking of a mixed bag, NECA just released a two-pack of Linn and Dutch from the classic 90s AvP arcade game. I’ve been looking forward to this set for a while now, and my preorder shipped yesterday.

Well, one of my favorite action figure reviewers got a review set from NECA and it’s got some issues. I’m not nearly as bothered by the Linn figure as he is, but the head sculpt on Dutch is, uh

I've thought about this way too much and I'd assume they don't need them. The queen ant's need to mate is to maintain diversity in the lineage and foster a population that's more robust and adaptable to the environment in the long term, but what about an organism that borrows genetic diversity whole cloth from their hosts? A queen would be born from a host unique to the organism/population to which the host was already adapted, and each drone would share the diversity of the established population of individual hosts. Genetic diversity is built into the colony by default because of their reliance on a provably successful population of genetically diverse hosts, which removes the need for seeking mating/diversification and relieves the evolutionary pressures on the xenos to make them even more efficient. Xenos would get to jump the line and 'steal' adaptations that took eons to evolve. Perfection.
