Better to build a less good gun with its own special ammo than figure out a better storage option for your regular guns.

Sensors and data processing are improving fields of technology. Even if there were improvements in the field of “invisibility”, it would be impossible to retrofit the planes to implement them.

I watched Top Gun Maverick yesterday and there's something almost Ur-Fascist in the way that the movie tries to drive home this point of 'a piloted plane is still better than a drone because of the human element' as well as 'a better pilot can overcome a technologically-superior plane' as part of the fictional mystique of the American military...

... but in the real world of Ukraine they're hyping up these Memeraktar drones and those smaller switchblade drones and HIMARS and all this high-tech poo poo that's supposed to win the war against Russia, which is constantly portrayed as being the more primitive force

Liberal excuse making is ur-fascism. Just make an excuse for what you want. When your whims change, make an excuse for that. The liberal is the eternal hero of a story they are telling themselves.

F-35 was supposed to be the less expensive alternative to the F-22. It didn’t turn out that way.

It's Umberto Eco poo poo where they can't have it both ways:

the US is going to win even against high-technology opponents because the pilots are just too drat good, but don't forget the US also has high-technology fighters of their own, they just don't want to use them
the pilot is always going to be superior to drones, even though the US relies heavily on drones itself
the enemy does have next-generation fighters, but for one reason or another they're either too incompetent to fly them right, or the fighters are still technologically flawed in some way

This is the frictionless excuse machine. Able to effortlessly reconfigure itself based on which excuse is more convenient at the moment. You build such a machine by taking the gears and stripping all the teeth. Just unconnected parts endlessly spinning.

Adding any armor or weapons to a vehicle means it is now a tank. It must have everything a tank should have because that is the standard by which it is judged. The vehicle’s original purpose is secondary.

The chrome lined barrels mean the gun is so clean it doesn't need it doesn't need cleaning kits. Also it can use dirtier burning ammo because it is so clean. It is so clean they got rid of the chrome lined barrels.

Speaking of energy weapons and Rifts, I always thought the insistence that lasers able to destroy tanks are totally silent was funny.

There’s something about energy weapons that makes people forget about the basic physics of their externalities.

The best use for the house is repeatedly selling it to yourself to drive up the price and taking out loans based on the inflated value. Then use the money to repeat the process and dissolve society so there is no organizing force to oppose you. You’ll have to employ mercenaries to replace some social functions and they may have to fortify random houses. You’ll just have to hope they don’t realize they have no future, regardless of whether or not they die in some wrecked hovel.
