I too vote Ancient Castle since that will be the least rude of the 2 choices. Maybe one of the 2 esper options are something that be used by someone who has magic, or at least some good stats for someone who actually can use them. (Serena.... why do you have to have trash stats that we can't truly enjoy +2 speed with?) I guess Zeppeli, Sakura and Sahara and Ukyo?

With the application of tallying votes and arcane rituals, I've determined that we're going to the Phoenix Cave with: Zepeli, Sakura, Sahara, Ukyo, Naru, Wei, Kaoru, and Videl. Videl represents how I feel about the Phoenix Cave. However, what must be done, must be done! Also I'm not even going to attempt to try and give a date for when the update will be out, as it's the busy holiday season. It's only been two weeks since the last post here and I had a sudden thought of "Oh poo poo I haven't posted in the thread in a month!" There will be an update though; I will be finishing this adventure no later than one year after it started, at the latest.

Merry Christmas, one and all! Here's a present! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGkzCiltp2w Final Fantasy VII - Listen to the Cries of the Planet This dungeon is accesible only by airship so if you really wanted to, you could come here right after getting it. I can't imagine it would fun as you have to split into two parties. Of course, the game can technically be beaten with only Celes/Edgar/Setzer. They're the only characters you're REQUIRED to get before the airship. This place is designed with buttons that open certain paths, hence the reason for two parties. Not that they had to do it this way I suppose but it's fine. Everything is fine. Remember this group, from waaaay back in Daryl's Tomb? I've made a lot of use of Kaund's rage. This pack is everywhere in this dungeon. It also includes mutagen, in case you have some turtles or a human boy laying around. These monsters also drop Illuminas! You know why I'm not going to be farming them? code:
They give no fucks about your defense. These were just regular Attacks! If they ONLY did Surge then I could kill them eventually but Kaoru can't survive their other attacks. I only have one option left. Running away like a coward. This is more like it, they only have 10,233 HP. And magical chains. I forgot to label this one; Wain Thu is the dancer on the left, Enfor is the sea anemone on the top right, and Odomilyn is the mini dragon on the bottom right. Wain Thu is nothing but Enfor is a nice source of Lores, if I hadn't gotten them yet. code:
code:
Another Attack x5 rage, with Atomic Ray as the second ability. Useful if I come across something weak to Fire. Only found in a treasure chest, notable only for dropping Marvel Shoes. Which aren't all that notable anyway. Another treasure monster, with 235 Magic Defense. Shamefully, they only have 365 HP and I have Fight. Another awful pack! Annull Jak has 45,344 HP with high defenses and is immune to most status effects. Scion has 81 HP and I don't know why they're even here. I ran away again. Hark! A treasure monster! When I was younger, I assumed the blades coming out of its face were propellers. Except the perspective makes it look like they're behind the fists and clearly that wouldn't work. I think it's a cool sprite anyway! It's very obviously outclassed at this point. No match for a Moogle with a chainsaw, clearly. (there's a dragon down here!) Hey wait a minute! We already fought this loser in Owzer's Mansion! Except it doesn't count there, I think. Whatever, this shouldn't be much trouble. Watch it here! ...even for only half of a party. Throw is really good, obscenely good. The only downside is that having a Thrower means you're guaranteed to have enemies that also throw. Blue Dragon has a paltry attack stat and Sahara has high defense, and is in the back row. There's very little it can do to Sahara. It's possible this would've hurt but we'll never find out! Electric type is super effective against water type, you know. I was very concerned about this fight before I got to it, especially once I realized I was taking the far weaker party to it. If it had been Red or Black or similar I could've been in some serious trouble. It's a tiny little Moogle! Look at it! It's also into bestiality! I don't care if the Esper itself is middling at best, Phoenixes are cool as hell. Our new friend gives a coy look and dumps a bunch of treasure on us. You know how all the treasure chests in the Phoenix Cave are empty, because Locke already took everything? They're not empty in BC. Every single one has a monster in a box. ALL TREASURES Kotetsu Blizzard Orb X-potion Fire Skean Fire Knuckle Tao Robe Punisher (Trades at the Coloseum for a Hero Ring) Snow Muffler 23,100 GP Megalixir (Blue Dragon drop) The Snow Muffler and Megalixir are great to have, Punisher less so. Still have no idea where the ValiantKnife is (EDIT: I can trade a Paladin Shield for one, duh.) I'm going to hazard a guess that it and the Magus Rod trade for each other at the Coloseum as they're my last unknown bets. There are three Magus Rods available from chests still. Now that we have our Relm replacement, let's get our final party member! The Moogle has a little anger cloud above their head as they shout at Luigi. Surely overalls aren't that odd.. We're helping! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYqqKH0q9uw Final Fantasy VII -- Tifa's Theme Homura can only equip Ifrit and Starlet and thus is nearly useless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OTcD2EMAKs Chrono Trigger - Primitive Mountain Rein is much better off, being our Mimic. The Mimic can't equip Espers at all and thus couldn't gain any stats from leveling ever. Ours, however, can use Illumina and can still do this: If you didn't know, the Mimic can equip any available command in the game, up to three at a time. This obviously includes our changed commands. You can really see how dire our situation is. You may also be wondering what use Magic would be on them, as they can never learn spells (even from equipment.) It works because the Mimic will have every spell the rest of the party knows. I have a bunch of people with no Magic command that can learn some REALLY GOOD spells. Once I teach them those spells, Rein will have them available as long as they're in the same party. Their Magic stat is even pretty good for a Mimic! Phoenix is only equippable by Popuko, who also has FOUR other Espers available and NO magic command. Popuko and Rein will probably be attached at the hip when I have a say in things. ------------------------------------------------------------ Please VOTE for which location we should aim for next from this list: Ancient Castle Fanatic's Tower I'll probably throw Thamasa/Hidon in with Fanatic's Tower, as they're both pretty short. We're almost there! Please ALSO VOTE for the four characters we will bring with us. Admiral Joeslop fucked around with this message at 23:06 on Dec 22, 2019 |

The things I do for you people. I completely forgot about the existence of Palidor, so that leaves five Espers left (including Odin/Raiden) and I went ahead and learned all the magic I can from items and current Espers while GP grinding. I will forge these characters into badasses. Edit: I'm also glad to see so much Popuko support, so I don't have to make an executive decision to bring them along regardless of the vote. They're the only one that can equip Odin/Raiden, after all. Gotta grind out those spells so I don't have to come back! Admiral Joeslop fucked around with this message at 04:22 on Jan 7, 2020 |

Fresh off the holidays and a cool Awesome Games Done Quick that I mostly missed, we're here to raid an ancient castle! There were only three character votes so dealer's choice was Ukyo, as Tools is a good command. We take a quick stop at the Solitary Island to grab Palidor, as I'm a dope and forgot it this whole time. Cure 3 and Haste 2 are pretty good, actually! Only Sakura can equip it which is mostly fine. They have a low Magic stat but at least they have the Magic Command. Also I ground out another 9 Cursed Shields into Paladin Shields so we have 10 of those now. Also I didn't pay attention to who had what spells before I got into the cave. No one has any cure spells for Float. Oops. It's honestly impressive that Edgar engineered a castle to take a predetermined path that works even in the apocalypse, with just a single lever pull. There's also a single entrance and exit for all the underground places. Very impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5txKx6bRbg Secret of Mana - Leave Time For Love We found a weird cave system! Monster in a box! Nepher is supposed to be in the Final Dungeon and drops Fixed Dice though I didn't get any from this fight. Wrai are encountered in the Final Dungeon AND Hidon's Cave. They drop something pretty good. It's their common AND rare drop! I don't know if that purple thing is suppose to be a balloon they're riding or what. Hidden underground castles with functioning moats are super cool. Most of the monsters here are also in the Final Dungeon but they're not really that bad. So far. Oh no! Not the nudist soldiers! Kinda strange that the way the developers decided to explain this location was to have whatever character is in front of your party (assuming they can talk) explain the history of the castle. It was part of the War of the Magi, 1,000 years ago. Odin gets turned to stone by this person. Wi has 1100~ HP and Yaki has 3900~ and they die to a stiff breeze. Not sure why they ended up in this area. Finally, something with over 10k HP! Vanilla KatanaSoul chest! Bit of a chump though. Rein just Mimics the X-meteo from Popuko for massive damage. Then it turns out KatanaSoul isn't even immune to confusion. code:
Another sub-4k HP monster. This place is a breeze. I'm not sure if Odin can see that we're here and decided to turn into Magicite, or if we have special Magicite powers. Very cool! Life 2 revives at full health. Learning it at x3 means I don't have to sit here forever grinding it out either. We've seen High Fak before; they have 3 HP and replaced Cactuars. Pretty sure we've seen all these before, just not in the same formation. The queen left some tears on the bookshelf. There's a hint somewhere to tell you to go seven steps south of the queen's chair and hit A. Doing so opens this hidden path. Hark! A dragon! Watch it here! I'm not going to argue that a T-rex isn't a dragon. Normally this one is found in the Opera House and is pretty easy. This one is still easy. No reason not to buff myself though! Air Anchor will kill an enemy if it hits, when they take their next turn. Being immune to Death makes you immune to Air Anchor. Homura isn't exactly a bastion of defense and the attack still only did this much damage. Pal Petal is an Attack x5, even. Dirt Dragon isn't even immune to Earth. Care to guess how the fight ends? Flare hits reasonably hard, ignoring defense. Only single target and can be reflected. X-meteo is way better. This is the part of the battle where I remember that Paladin Shields null Earth. What a chump. Interacting with the stoned queen turns Odin into Raiden. In vanilla, Odin teaches Meteor and gives a +1 Speed bonus at level up, the only Esper to do so. Cactuar in FF6 Advance gives +2 Speed. Raiden teaches Quick and gives +2 Strength. Both spells are really good; in vanilla, you're likely to leave this place to teach everyone Meteor and give any Speed bonuses before coming back to get Quick. We don't have to do that, as I've already taught Odin's spells to the one person that can equip him! Life 3 means Fanatics Tower is a relative gimme, unless everyone is mean enough to not vote Popuko in. We're not done yet! Naru and Homura need to head back to Thamasa. Naru's friend was attacked by a monster from their youth, and got hurt. His friend convinces Naru to hunt the monster down and extract revenge. Ebot's Rock is just north of Thamasa and is a tiny dungeon. Every room has: a switch, and either a treasure chest or a save point. The locations you are sent to are random. The goal of the dungeon is to collect Coral pieces (the only things in the treasure chests) to feed to this chest to get it to move. This is slightly harder in the Textless ROM because I have no idea how many Coral I have and just have to keep collecting until I think I have enough. No, I don't want to read your blog post about vaccines. Odomilyn has good skills: Bolt 3, Cure 2, Fire 3, Meteor, Pearl, Quick, Regen, Rflect, Stop, Warp I'm lucky it didn't use Meteor as that would probably kill me. Jeha has 138 HP. Why are you here, little one? Infat is a big fat jerk. code:
It counters pretty much everything with Flare. I absorb a lot of them with Magic Block but several still get through, one shotting anyone they hit. It also gets a boss death animation, despite not being THAT bad. Yeah yeah, lemme through. Yes, please, and thank you. I may come back to grab some more Genji Armors. They don't bet for much but I have six or so people that can wear them. Hello, drab Chupon sprite. Time to die! code:
Water does alright. Who needs Ultima? Well, I will, when I find Floating monsters. Your elements pose no threat to me! Once all the Hidonites are dead, Hidon starts flashing. I forgot that this is the trigger I was looking for, and had to do this fight about five times before remembering. I kept killing Hidon before it used its ultimate spell. It looks nice! A rotating triangle, which took a lot of computation for an SNES. It really loving hurts, too. I'm only missing one Lore now. I forgot to check so it's either Pep Up or Sour Mouth. Naru is smug as hell. Bragging to your friend who almost died that you murdered the monster you've been chasing since you were a kid. Hidon actually comes back if you wait long enough, in case you missed GrandTrain or want to farm it for drops. I did not and do not. Turns out Homura had Gungho fake the attack, so they could motivate Naru to put in some god damned effort for once. Then they insult Gungho. Tiny Moogles are harsh. ------------------------------------------------------------ ALL TREASURES Stout Spear Elixir Doom Darts Magicite X-Potion Air Anchor (also purchased one for 65k) Crystal Imp's Armor Rising Sun ------------------------------------------------------------ Please VOTE for the four characters we will bring with us to the Fanatics Tower. I went in to check, and it looks like everyone that isn't a berserker will have their Magic command available. I would like to have Popuko at least, for Life 3, but if the votes don't go that way, so be it! We have four dragons left; one at Narshe, one at Fanatics, two in the Final Dungeon. I'll snag the Narshe one in the next update as well. We're also missing two Espers; Ragnarok is at the top of Fanatics Tower (instead of Narshe) and Crusader from killing the final Dragon. The people working on expanding the randomizer are sticking to abyssonym's vision as best they can (while also discussing things with him) so I don't think FT is changed yet. Also: Q: The Moogle Charm doesn't work. A: It was nerfed. FF6 uses a threat level based random encounter system, and Moogle Charm increases threat level by the lowest possible value without removing encounters altogether. The specifics are a bit complex, but you should think of it as having about a 1/256 encounter rate if you've been wearing it for a while. Also, some later dungeons might randomly ignore Moogle Charm altogether. Q: I'm in a dungeon and the encounter rate is insanely high. A: Some later dungeons have a chance to become high encounter rate dungeons. However, these dungeons are twice as vulnerable to the effects of Charm Bangle and Moogle Charm.
