I think Apple will go after the same deal that cable providers have in some places: you can get HBO on demand, but only with a cable package. currently a Canadian company called Crave gives you HBO + Showtime for $9.99, but you have to cough up another $5 if you want the most recent season or two of the HBO shows, plus a selection of movies. perhaps by Apple producing their own content they're arguing they're like a cable provider and can offer the same HBO add-on that cable providers can. while Apple seemingly wants Disney-type family friends programming, HBO and others can easily make up the other genres. of note, Adult Swim recently shut down their VOD apps on Android/iOS. this either means the model of each network having their own Netflix-lite is a bad model. or (given the timing) it could mean they plan to migrate to Flix. a similar situation brought about iTunes as each major label attempted their own online store or subscription. the "TV" app is already a central hub for the subscription-based apps of TV providers. perhaps Apple will simply offer a "Channel Store" (ChApple Store anyone? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) so networks don't have to build their own app. I hope an iCloud + Apple Music bundle will allow for some free content from Apple at least. Lastly, Apple and Disney are close. There's a rumoured "Disney+" Netflix clone. I doubt a partnership will happen, but who knows.

It counts as a “cable provider” for the purpose of logging into NBC or whatever and watching shows there. Hilariously, it is available on the PS3. I do not recommend it. The PS3 has anemic levels of ram and changing “channels” takes at least 30 seconds.

posting in the keynote thread i've been using directv now and they think i have an att unlimited plan (i don't) so i get a nice discount. it has a dvr function which i guess is hypothetically useful if i watched anything other than sports live. as for the netflix marvel shows, i believe they can't move to another streaming service for like five years or something even though it was netflix's option to not order any more. if they get rebooted, they'll certainly go on disney+
