OK the draft is over, now all the teams sign their UDFAs. A ton of these guys will wash out, a few will land on taxi squads, and a rare fellow will make it and turn the longest of shots into an NFL career. Post your team's UDFA pickups and whatever you know of them.

General draftermath chat goes in the draftermath thread, this is for UDFA-specific yammering.

Here is CBS's UDFA signings tracker

Less than 24 hours after the draft and KC has 4 UDFA QBs. Either the Chiefs really want camp arms or camp arms really want to practice under Reid.

Gotta work out like 500 WRs to replace Tyreek, which means a lot of deep ball throwing.

Oakland Raiders

Te'von Coney, LB, Notre Dame - has a real chance of making the team and could possibly *start* because he's behind Brandon Marshall and Vontaze Burfict ffs

Lester Cotton, OL, Alabama - their 5th? pick from the National Championship game
Koa Farmer, LB, Penn State
Keelan Doss, WR, UC Davis - Always get a local
Keisean Nixon, CB, South Carolina
Ronald Ollie, DT, Raiders - he was on Last Chance U or so I was told

West Georgia kinda waffled with Malik Henry as a return specialist last season, but he's pretty good at that. I'd imagine it's the only way he catches on.

Special teams are important, so that's good!

Flannegan-Fowles sounds good. Apparently he's a stout run stopper, and a good tackler.

Nobody move and nobody gets hurt.

The Colts have some kind of ridiculous streak going for consecutive years where a UDFA makes the final roster, but this year I don't think it's going to happen. The best shot would be for one of the WRs to distinguish himself in the return game and unseat Chester Rogers or Zach Pascal as WR5 or 6, but Parris Campbell might lock that job up too. Should be interesting training camp battles there and at depth CB, though.

Greg Dortch seems cool and good. Decent chance of making the 53 given the Jets lack of WR depth. Looks like he could be a decent punt returner, too.

I saw some twitter speculation from someone or other with a blue checkmark that Mizzou coaches didn't back Hall up on being hurt during the season? Like he wasn't injured enough not to play or didn't fight hard enough to get back or something and that scared teams off.

No idea if there's anything to it but he did have a groin injury that kept him out quite a while last year.

Carolina has added WR Damion Jeanpiere Jr., Nicholls State.

Rams have added LB/DL Landis Durham, Texas A&M

Falcon's announced 16 UDFAs today, which is fewer than I had last night from the CBS UDFA tracker. Dunno if CBS has a better source, or if they've listed guys who were not actually added.

FS Parker Baldwin
WR Shawn Bane
LB Yurik Bethune
OT Lanard Bonner
CB Rashard Causey
LB Tre' Crawford
OT Devon Johnson
WR Kahill Lewis
LB Durrant Miles
C Chandler Miller
LB Del'Shawn Phillips
OT Jaelin Robinson
CB Jayson Stanley
LS Kyle Vasey
WR CJ Worton
WR Olamide Zaccheaus

Vikings have an updated list:
Micah Abernathy ............... S ...................... Tennessee
Khari Blasingame ............ FB ........................ Vanderbilt
Jake Browning ................ QB ..................... Washington
Davion Davis ................. WR ......... Sam Houston State
Brandon Dillon ................. TE ............................. Marian
Alexander Hollins .......... WR ................. Eastern Illinois
John Keenoy ..................... C ........... Western Michigan
Nate Meadors................. CB .............................. UCLA
Tito Odenigbo................. DT .............................. Miami
Anree Saint-Amour ......... DE .................. Georgia Tech

This list adds WR Alexander Hollins and CB Nate Meadors, while dropping Kris Boyd, CB, Texas and Mar'Sean Diggs, DB, Alabama Birmingham from the previous list I had last night.

Here's the Jags' absurdly long 21 man list, updating from the 15 I had listed yesterday:
https://twitter.com/Jaguars/status/1122592366655942656/photo/1

I expect a lot of the lists from yesterday had errors or were incomplete. I can't find a really good tracker that isn't like some blog post or a bunch of links to tweets with uncertain update times, so definitely if you care about a particular team, post updates of their UDFAs.

Here's NFL.com's tracker which may be better than CBS? But it only lists for example 3 ravens whereas CBS has 13, so I suspect this also isn't reliable

This is also interesting: NFL.com has a list of Top unsigned players by position, which they're updating as guys get signed. So for example, here's their QB list:

2. Nick Fitzgerald, Mississippi St. (UPDATE: Signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per Fitzgerald)
3. Jordan Ta'amu, Mississippi
4. Jacob Dolegala, Central Connecticut St.
5. Manny Wilkins, Arizona State (UPDATE: Signing with the Green Bay Packers, per Wilkins)
6. Taryn Christion, South Dakota St.
7. Kyle Shurmur, Vanderbilt (UPDATE: Signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, per Pelissero)
8. Eric Dungey, Syracuse
9. Jake Browning, Washington (UPDATE: Signing with the Minnesota Vikings, per Pelissero)
10. Brett Rypien, Boise State (UPDATE: Signing with the Denver Broncos, per Pelissero)
11. Justice Hansen, Arkansas State
12. Marcus McMaryion, Fresno State
13. Jalan McClendon, Baylor
14. Tanner Mangum, BYU
15. Taylor Cornelius, Oklahoma St.
16. Brent Stockstill, Middle Tennessee
17. David Blough, Purdue
18. Jacob Knipp, Northern Colorado
19. Hayden Moore, Cincinnati
20. Devlin Hodges, Samford
21. Wilton Speight, UCLA
22. Drew Anderson, Murray State
23. Brad Mayes, Lehigh
24. Kyle Kempt, Iowa State
25. JaJuan Lawson, Rhode Island
26. Jacob Mezera, Fort Hays St.
27. Andrew Ford, UMass
28. Gus Ragland, Miami (Ohio)
29. Amir Hall, Bowie State
30. Sam Straub, Southern Illinois
31. Layton Rabb, Midwestern State
32. C.J. Collins, Southwestern Assemblies of God

3 - Dolphins
4 - Raiders

Bears in the top 10.

The names on the right are comps if that isn't clear.

Keelan Doss is getting some significant buzz too, although it's a pretty crowded WR room there now, especially compared to last year.

It's always crazy to look into these UDFA's and you learn that they like broke a bunch of records, they were the top poo poo at their school, etc. etc. The Bears signed the best player in all of Canada as an UDFA. These guys are still really, really good players who owned whatever level of competition they were at. The fact that they're relegated to going undrafted just seems crazy sometimes. The talent pool in college football is still pretty drat good, I'm waiting for that slowdown everyone thinks is coming

I think teams should always take a small school WR or RB with ridiculous production if they're available, the seem to transition better than most.

Something I've been wondering - is it even possible or allowed for a player to skip the draft, if for example they've been courted by a specific team, or want to play for a specific team? Like if you're some college phenom and you've got your agent, and you know the top 12 draft teams are all tire fires and gently caress playing in green bay all winter, is it allowed skip the draft to sign for whatever team as an UDFA?
Follow up question if the answer is no, do players ever deliberately tank their draft stock by sandbagging the combine or "attitude problems" to avoid being picked by the top draft teams, and get chosen by the team they want later in the draft?

Players certainly have deliberately tanked their stock in the past. I can't think of specific examples though.

It is a fine line to walk though. Most NFL teams are wary of poor athletes or poor character individuals. They could drop a few rounds or go UDFA.
Either that, or they end up drafted by the Browns, Raiders or Bengals

I don't think that exact scenario can play out- Rookie players have to enter the draft, and the financial ramifications of pulling something like this are too much. Rookie salaries are structured by the league, dropping from #1 to #10 is like a loss of half of the value of the structured four-year deal. A UDFA makes a fraction of that money. When La'El Collins dropped from a likely 1st round pick to a UDFA because there was concerns he may have murdered his girlfriend, teams couldn't offer him an equivalent contract to what he would have made- he was still locked into a 3-year, UDFA contract.

At a certain point, players do probably prefer being UDFAs rather than late round picks because they can pick more advantageous circumstances, but I don't know if they ever really make steps to assure it, and you do lose a bit of money.

Bernie Kosar did manage to pull off picking his team(the Browns) in 1985. Kosar held a press conference where he was declaring for the draft, and then didn't sign the paperwork by the deadline- Then the Browns turned around and traded for the 1986 1st pick of the team picking #1 overall in '85, giving them the rights to the 1st overall pick in a Supplemental draft- which Kosar then declared for. I believe you could still probably pull something off like this, provided you had draft eligibility and a team interested in playing ball who could work out a trade.

Strong stroll for a mangy stray
I mean if you're really a superstar you could just straight up refuse to sign the contract of the team that drafted you and demand a trade right away. Is that right?

Although you'd have to be prepared for the possibility of not playing football at all for some time, which is a pretty scary prospect for these guys. You also don't want a horrible reputation as a diva and an unmanageable personality, which you would instantly get if you refused to play for the team that drafted you

Bo Jackson refused to play for the Bucs. He obviously had other options than football though.

And Eli did so with the Chargers, right? Basically you have to be one of the first five picks and an outrageous talent to even think about doing something like that (not that Eli's an outrageous talent necessarily, but you get what I mean)

Elway is the other famous example.

I believe those three are it though, other than some USFL guys or if you want to go way back the AFL. Which wouldn't be a reasonable option today unless the XFL really.....oh god I almost made it through that without laughing.

I'm not entirely sure how long a team has "rights" to a player they've drafted but hasn't signed or reported to them. Bo Jackson turned around and was drafted the year after he refused to play for the Bucs, and a lot of what I've seen seems to imply it's a year. The Texans drafted Drew Henson with the idea they would flip him if he didn't end up sticking with baseball- but then again they also traded him the year after they drafted him, so who knows?

The team holds your rights until the next year's draft, at which point you have to go through the draft again.
