A history of china, guy has kinda weird verbal tics.

The BBC interviews people involved in historical events for a hour. Pretty good tbh because they tend to just let them do their thing.

Picks up directly from the history of rome podcast, pretty calming narration though a bit dry.

Cocaine and Rhinestones
Good country music history podcast, currently in development on season 2. Guy is kind of smugly annoying sometimes but still very interesting material

Hit Parade
Pop music history, really incredible. Guy is not smugly annoying. Recommended first eps: Stevie Wonder (Everybody Say Yeah!), Britney Spears (Give Me a Sign [this one contains my favorite music factoid of all time]), Donna Summer (Queen of Disco)

The Siecle
History of 19th century France. It just started so hasn't gotten to the parts I'm most interested to hear about (Charles X being a total moron, Dreyfus) but still good so far

Unfortunately none of these people are mad on twitter, so y'all might not like them

I was wondering about the siecle since it came up in my feed.
Thanks for the recommendation :)

I really recommend going in order through Revolutions, things tend to lead into each other. Like, the French revolution specifcally plays into the next...five(?) pretty heavily

at least don't skip Haiti, because it rules hard. there's a point towards the end of it where Mike starts editorializing about how the other revolutions cloaked themselves in flowery, liberal rhetoric about freedom and equality meanwhile the Haitians are goddamned slaves throwing off their shackles. actual liberation, none of this "boohoo my taxes" bullshit

It was a real good series

Aside from stuff already mentioned, History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps has been going on since at least 2011, is hosted by a philosophy professor based in London and Munich. It started with Thales and the Pre-Socratics, goes through ancient, and classical history, heads to cover philosophy in the Islamic world, then jumps back to cover medieval western Europe and after that has just finished a run on Byzantine/Eastern European philosophy. So that's about 330 episodes and then there's the accompanying shows covering Indian and African philosophy, albeit in a lot less depth because I guess there's fewer sources in a language the host reads. He's also talked about wanting to get to Chinese eventually.

It's really in depth and if you've a passing interest it's worth a listen.

Tides of History is good history stuff too, covering medieval and early modern European history.

Tides of history is excellent and the guy did a fall of Rome podcast as well

it's annoying because the ways RED cheated and the ways RED "cheated" are difficult to disentangle

on the one hand, loading up speedboats with missiles bigger than speedboats is just some absolute script kiddy trying to break the game horseshit

on the other hand, "wait if I know the opposing force has compromised electronic communications, what if I don't use electronic communications for important poo poo" is exactly the kind of strategic decision we've been screaming NO FAIR at our opponents for using since Vietnam
In conclusion wargaming is a fantasyland of contrasts

There are so many reasons that Iran could beat us, you don't need to bring up the Millennium Challenge at all. They didn't mention the fact that Iran is like the size of all of Western Europe, and is all mountains, swamps, or dense urban areas. The three absolute worst kinds of terrain for an invading force

Ripper said that electronic communication jamming would have no effect because he simply switched to using motorcycle couriers, which he said were as fast and reliable as radio transmissions. Total Calvinball poo poo

Does someone have that good Iran post

Yeah, even the least charitable interpretation of the millennium challenge exercises leaves you with the result that the USA spent hundreds of millions of dollars on war games against a hypothetical Iran and learned absolutely nothing of value. Which also does not bode well for the US's chances against Iran.

It's this honestly

War Nerd is a different kind of amazing lately, three episodes on Venetian history that I was completely unaware of. Just not something that comes up much in American education

Venice I feel is extremely out of the way and I think that people haven't been learning about the crusades as much
