Welcome to the variety show clown car that is the 2020 Democratic Primary Debates. Debates are being held monthly until further notice. Debate 4 is October 15. Another one night affair. It will be hosted by CNN. The debates are in Westerville, Ohio, at Otterbein University (idk why). Debate 5 will be November 20 in Atlanta.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Democratic_Party_presidential_debates_and_forums

Polling: Two options
  • At least 3% in four polls that are national or in any of the first four primary states
  • OR At least 5% in two polls in any of the first four primary states

For posterity, here's the qualifications for Debates 1 and 2

Qualification rules for Debates 1 & 2

quote:

In order to qualify for the first and second debates, debate entrants must at minimum comply with one of the two below listed criteria (and if this test results in more than 20 qualified candidates, the two criteria will be evaluated in combination as per the outlined tiebreaking rules):

Polling criterion: Attain at least 1% support in minimum 3 approved polls for either the national level or the first four primary/caucus states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina). The polling threshold will be determined using only the published top-line result (whether or not it is a rounded or weighted number) of polls published after January 1, 2019 up until 14 days before the scheduled debate, with each candidate only being able to count one poll by the same pollster within each region towards the requirement.

Fundraising criterion: Meet a fundraising threshold, in which a candidate must receive donations from a minimum of 65,000 unique donors, with at least 200 unique donors per state in at least 20 states.

In case of more than 20 qualifying candidates:
1. If >20 meet both criterion-> Top 20 Polling averages.
2. If <20 meet both criterion & >20 meet polling criterion -> All who meet both are automatically in, and the highest polling averages of the remaining candidates who qualified with polling criterion are slotted in
3. If <20 meet polling criterion -> As above, will all candidates meeting Polling criterion getting slotted in and the candidates with the highest number of unique voters getting the remaining slots

I'm honestly the same way, but I expect Warren to just eat into Bernies base because she doesn't have a reputation of having a base that include lovely, exclusionary, die hard.

Warren is basically the biggest name on her stage so someone like Booker or Castro or Gabbard could fill extra room to pump up their stock. I expect Beto to say something dumb maybe Gabbard or de Blasio too.

Like it or not Bernie sorta has a pie in the sky cloud around him. Warren is getting way more specific about how she intends to implement her. Polices. Bernie comes across as old.

I'm a Bernie supporter. And I'm thinking Warren would attract more moderates.

Also there will never ever be a warren/Sanders ticket

The vp needs to pick up room where the vp lacks. Too redundant

Warren might be “more specific” but her policies are far from good so of course moderates prefer her.

>No he doesn't. He has clearly laid out how he's going to pay for things. This is a corporate media lie you're repeating. Bernie is full of life and working with the new kids AOC and Omar.

perhaps you're a bit out of touch with the way things operate within the House and the Senate, but the overriding political strategy of the Democratic Party these days is summed up into a two-part active plan called, "roll over and die"

I'll continue to support Sanders. But people are flocking to Warren for a reason.

She definitely has the momentum and I really hope Bernie kills it in the debates to get some support back.

The media has definitely propped up Warren lately and I understand that. She did a really good job in her recent town halls and I think that somewhat accounts for her recent lead. Bernie needs a bit more mainstream coverage. The debates will help that.
