Reduces how much you need to cap them. Also, TM, Augs, and NGU keep gradually requiring more Energy and/or Magic to cap as they increase in level, so you can keep them capped longer.

I assume my challenges are low but I literally can't complete any more, can't afford more particle upgrades, and once I'm down to 10 seconds per obtainium I plan to spend it mostly on tax mitigation and building scaling.

I'm at 7/4/2/1/1 challenges, and I've gotten the 1e42 Mythos upgrade. I seem to be walled at the existing challenge levels, so what else should I be doing right now?

Doing this now, good idea - thanks.

Minimum of softcap which is 250 base. Once above softcap it depends if you want to immediately move to 3* runs or not - if you do then keep going with MADs and pick up all the craftsmen upgrades at least, and the first two challenge upgrades. Only spend plasmids above 250. That will set you up to start 3* Bioseeds with a decent amount of mastery which will in turn raise your plasmid softcap.

What are 3* runs and challenge upgrades?

One of the tech unlocks is for CRISPR which is the primary reset currency spending area. You'll spend a few plasmids there to unlock challenges which allows you to start adding modifiers onto runs for more mastery which give larger multipliers to production.

A 3* run is No Free Trade (no manual trading), No Manual Crafting, and Junk Gene (weaker creep crispr, and a random neg trait). The fourth challenge is No Starting Plasmids which you won't want to do until you've left normal and have a good mastery reserve, which is what 3* runs are for. The way mastery works is each achievement gives a base of 0.25% bonus production with each challenge adding another 0.25%, so 3* is 1% bonus prod per achievement which adds up very quickly.

Hardened Genes and Unlocked are the two challenge upgrades you want - the first unlocking said challenges and the second adding the mastery bonuses for a total of 55 plasmids. While there you should also get Spatial Reasoning for storage from plasmids for 50. And all the craftsmen unlocks are required to make 3*s not take too long which will put you back 270.

I'm getting close to having the Rigorous plasmid upgrade. What's the best species to chain 3* runs as?

edit: another thing to double check, have you taken over all the other territories and achieved Unification? That bonus is huge, I skipped it on my first Bioseed (which at least got me an achievement) but it added a lot of extra time

3% General Mastery, Store - Plasmids increase storage by 0.04%, Evolution costs decreased, Crafty - Doubles the rate at which craftsmen work and craftsmen produce 100% more product from the same amount of raw materials, Challenge Genes unlocked and achievements grant a small production bonus, and Evolve Novice.

Right! I've been doing MADs with the occasional Bioseed sprinkled in. I've got a bunch of stuff from CRISPR now. Namely:

Storage perks up to Spatial Supremacy
Enhanced Muscle Fiber
Morphogenesis and Recombination from the Evolve line
All the Synthesis and Plasmid perks for easier mutation
Replication (stuck on a Toxic planet, figured it was a good time to get it)
All the Crafty perks
The queue and Governor perks
The challenge and Mastery-unlocking perks
Ancients

I also have 15.25% Mastery right now. So, my question now is "is it a good time to unlock Priests and Faith, or should I pop for the third cost creep perk instead?" ...Assuming the minor trait perks aren't also worth it.

So the CCR you get from crispr is a bit of a letdown if you plan to do 3*+ ever as Junk Gene reduces its effect to 1/5th. You'll still want them eventually but the plasmids are better spent elsewhere, for now. Based off your list I'd save for the last storage upgrade then stockpile ~2k plasmids (if you plan to go antimatter) while doing 3* mastery farming and blackholing out. Priests aren't worth it until much later when Theocracy becomes viable and population cap isn't an issue.

You'll eventually want one phage point in all the minor perks but the only ones that matter right now are Tactical and Content as mandatory, then Ambidextrous as a good-to-have. The arpa perks that give minors are only worth the first few cheap upgrades early on.

Blackholing out? Is it time to go for that? I've only accomplished MAD with 16 out of 25 races needed for Mass Extinction.
