one time when i was young, i was hanging out with a bunch of friends at a pier in sf drinking booze at night and some cops rolled up on us and left when we didn't run. they didn't even talk to us or get out of the car. every other cop story i have is bad.

I was a heroin addict for many years. I have some pretty bad cop stories. Most cops look at addicts as problems and not people which leads to some dehumanizing situations.

There's a cop in my neighborhood and every year for Halloween he starts cruising around the neighborhood telling kids to go home about 30 minutes before Trick or Treat ends. A couple years ago we had a group of kids (around 12 years old) hanging out in our yard trading candy and he flashed his lights at them and told them to disperse. I told him they were free to hang out and he told me it wasn't my decision, even though it was my yard. So yeah that was fun.

Rust Cole is pretty much the best cop we can hope for in the real world and he most likely got a huge amount of innocent people convicted by making them sign false confessions.

Well unless you’re an anprim I don’t see how you could be truly against the police. All forms of civilization are based on extraordinary levels of violence. Any socialist state that wants to function is going to need some people to apply violence to dissenters, remember even Angela Davis supports prisons in the context of communist societies.

Well how do you intend to enforce societal order in a socialist state? You can call them community enforcers or whatever and super promise they’re not actually police, but at the end of the day if they’re there to prevent total state collapse and to apply violence or imply the threat of violence they’re still police.

The point is everyone who doesnt read crimethinc accepts that there needs to be some sort of force for preventing crime but the US police are so thoroughly hosed up that we basically need to start over

the problem with cops isn't that they enforce laws, it's that they do so unjustly, oppressively, and corruptly, and also the laws themselves are unjust, oppressive, and corrupt so just fix those little details and having cops is fine
