First and foremost, thank you my good friend Deakul for the original Wildlands thread!

Welcome to the sequel goons!

Play with goons here. It’s same place we do Division 2 and has the crossover of goons. Read the readme if you’re new. This is for PC and consoles, just like we did with Div2. Be cool: https://discord.gg/kV2HaFf

When’s this launch?

October 4, 2019

:ducksiren: THERE IS AN “OPEN BETA” I WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW ABOUT :ducksiren:

But mr icr sun god man, what do you mean?

The beta is from 9/5-9/9. It’s free to get invited to with Uplay+. I have a lot to say on this later. Anywho...

See, it’s free. You should do this for the FREE month. It’s the only free month they’re doing. It’s brand new and launches 9/3.

So, what happens is you get a lot of games to play for a month that are on Uplay. It’s $0. The most important of which for this thread’s purpose is Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

$0. Do it. PC Only for this deal. Console, you gotta preorder. If you have a capable PC though, well, see above again.

What is in this smelly beta?

First off: preload is available now.

It starts on Thursday at 6AM ET.

Content: Everything can be played solo or with three other players in co-op. Four of Breakpoint’s map regions (Smuggler Coves, Mount Hodgson, Sinking Country, Fen Bog) will be available to explore.

You’ll also have access to two story missions, various side missions, and eight faction missions that rotate every day of the beta.

Throughout the four regions, you’ll also encounter three of the game’s big drone bosses. Each of these drone areas hide a tough fight. This includes the Murmurs drone swarm, the Aamons land drone, and the big Behemoth tank.

You can stream this until your Heart is content. No NDA.

OK, but about the game? What if I’m slightly interested?

WELCOME TO AUROA

Somewhere in the South Pacific lies the remote Auroa Archipelago, a vast land of diverse biomes that range from lush rainforests to snowy peaks. Now, it’s home to Skell Technology, an enigmatic technology giant. Initially interested in a remote testing site for its autonomous drones, the Silicon Valley company eventually turned Auroa into its “World 2.0,” a high-tech, high-security utopia of sustainable eco-cities and robotics research.

Better yet, you have to go find Jon Bernthal and bring him down. It’s open world stuff. You get loot. You have fun. It’s co-op or solo. It’s got a raid now.

There’s 11 biomes.

Battle on land, air and sea.

Co-op is jump in and jump out.

The enemies are called Wolves. They’re not actual wolves. PETA would go apeshit.

Now I’m stealing words from Ubisoft.

GAME DETAILS

MILITARY SURVIVAL

Experience life as a Ghost, an elite US Special Operations soldier, as you fight back from behind enemy lines on the toughest mission of your career.

INJURY SYSTEM

Now when your Ghost takes damage they may also become injured. These injuries will slow you down and reduce your combat effectiveness requiring additional time and resources to heal your Ghost back up to peak fighting condition.

TERRAIN AND STAMINA

The world of Auroa will push your Ghost to their limits. Steep slopes will make you slip and fall, traversing water or snow will slow you down. Properly managing your stamina will be essential to surviving and fighting back.

THE BIVOUAC

Trapped behind enemy lines The Bivouac is a temporary camp where you and your fellow Ghosts will rest and prepare for the next mission. Clean your weapons, change classes, craft items, upgrade gear, and more. Then select desired time of day and weather before venturing back out.

BUDDY CARRY

Leave no man behind. When an ally is down and needs help, instead of giving medical attention in the middle of a firefight, you can quickly sling them over your shoulder and move to safety to get them back on their feet.

STEALTH

Use all your training and skills to infiltrate or evade your enemies as they hunt you without mercy.

PRONE BLENDING

As a Ghost you can disappear into your environment making you nearly invisible to your enemies. Use this feature to set up an ambush or avoid detection when cover is not available.

ADVANCED ENEMY AI

The Wolves and their allies are experienced elite soldiers and will communicate amongst themselves to hunt you down if detected. With a wide variety of AI archetypes and behaviors, no two encounters will be the same.

ADAPTIVE COVER

An adaptive cover system will automatically match your Ghost’s body position to available cover and execute advanced tactics, such as leaning to aim around corners.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR GHOST

Create a unique Ghost to look and play your way. With multiple classes and deep systems featuring thousands of options for both functional and cosmetic customization no two Ghosts will look and play the same. Weapons, gear, and equipment are craftable, customizable, and upgradeable using items and resources you’ll find across Auroa.

Multiplayer?

Yes. There is competitive PvP. There’s a raid too. There’s 4 player co-op though story or open world content.

Loot and Class Progression

Quoting this from a site that played the game.

TIERED LOOT DROPS

Though our hands-on time with Ghost Recon Breakpoint was very brief, we did notice one interesting new quirk: enemies drop tiered loot. Sure, you can always grab a dead grunt’s gun in Wildlands, but in Breakpoint goons drop different rarities of weapons. The only example we came across was a PP-19-01 Vityaz that dropped with a greenish glow, which traditionally flags in-game gear as ‘uncommon’. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to investigate its stats to see what made it different. Much like in looter shooters and MMOs, you’ll also be able to unlock gear and cosmetics from chests scattered around the world, ensuring every map marker is teeming with potential loot rewards.

CLASS-BASED PROGRESSION

Instead of progressing your Ghost by gradually accumulating abilities from a sprawling skill tree, Ghost Recon Breakpoint offers four classes that you can switch between whenever you visit a bivouac. Each class has its own progression tree and suite of special abilities, meaning you’ll have to specialise your Breakpoint character build a bit more. For example, you could pick the Panther class to gain access to abilities like ‘smokescreen’ that allow you to quickly break away from a firefight. More Breakpoint character classes have been promised post-launch, too.

How do I buy this game?

Consoles, you know how this works. PC, stay with me. And stay with me all nice and good-like:

:ducksiren: DO NOT BUY THIS FOR $60 :ducksiren:

Remember I posted above you could play this beta for free and see if you like it? If you do, you need to buy Uplay+ for $14.99. From there, you should wait for the inevitable discount. Division 2 got a 50% discount in under 2 months. Don’t fall victim.

“Buy the game” for $14.99. Treat it like Origin Access, Games Pass, etc. it’s available on Uplay.

I am fat with money and need to spend

Here ya go then. It’s like, exactly the same thing as Division 2 buy prices:

PC Reqs

Minimum specs: (Low, 1080p)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 / Intel Core i5-4460

RAM: 8GB

Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 280X / Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 (4GB)

OS: Windows 7-10

Recommended specs: (High, 1080p)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 / Intel Core i7-6700K

RAM: 8GB

Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 480 / Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB)

OS: Windows 7-10

Ultra specs: (1080p)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X / Intel Core i7-6700K

RAM: 16GB

Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080

OS: Windows 10

Thoughts:

To me, it seems like with the additions, it’s going the way of The Division this time around. It’s GaaS stuff so, with that, just know what you’re getting into. However, for $14.99 launch, as long as beta rocks the house (I think it will be really solid by the sounds), $15 is a good entry point.

Let’s have some fun and play together. The Fall and Winter owns for games. Be cool to each other, help each other out, humble brag some loot and accomplishments and most importantly, let’s have fun!!

PVP2: https://youtu.be/Ka5wV3Cr1_U

More gameplay screens will come when beta drops. I’ll screen some. More updates to come to round up the OP a bit more.

See you all in game!

You have to go on the uplay+ website and look at the list of uplay+ games, then hover over the one you want and the "add to library" option should show up. It then should be added into your uplay client. Yes, this is stupid.

The client is also saying right now that my uplay+ subscription is expired which is lol. Googling this seems like its a known issue though, probably because of all the new subscription requests.

Also, I hope this game does not treat our antagonist seriously because this is, well, some Tom Clancy tier naming alright:

Man, I'm bummed to hear that this is just Division + jungle. I liked Wildlands because it was different from Division and didn't have poo poo like loot to worry about. I didn't spend a ton of time in Wildlands but did have a fun enough time screwing around with a friend in the wilderness getting into shenanigans.

I think the weapon tiers will mean less in this than they do in the division, but it does make me wonder why they felt the need to make it so I could have a common level 1 HK416 or an uncommon level 5 HK416

it just seems like they're throwing everything at the wall: survival stuff, upgrade tiers, crafting, etc etc

Sometimes that works out - Splinter Cell Blacklist comes to mind - but sometimes not. We'll see

Just gathering impressions, even from the dumb places. I do enjoy the reads:

Ghost Recon Breakpoint: 6-Hour Hands-On Preview Impressions http://www.ign.com/articles/2019/09/03/ghost-recon-breakpoint-6-hour-hands-on-preview-impressions

quote:

Before I sat down to play several hours of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, community developer Grace Orlady set the stage: “We want to make the player live the life of an elite special forces hunter,” she said. Well, I’m pretty sure real special forces don’t stare down former allies turned maniacal supervillains on private islands overrun by weaponized drones, but...well, if they did I suppose we’d never know about it. So sure, let’s go with it!

Let’s get this out of the way so we can move on to more important stuff: Breakpoint’s story, based on what I’ve seen so far, is going to be laughably bad. Ex-Punisher Jon Bernthal is an ex-Ghost-turned-Wolf, and it seems chock full of all the usual cliches: good guys turning bad, friends turning against each other, etc. But forget about that because it’s not why you’re going to play Breakpoint: the super chill, open-ended structure of the game is.

Ghost Recon’s developers made a point to say, “We’re not just making a better version of Wildlands” before we played, but it certainly shares some DNA. Like with Wildlands, the sentiment I came away with after six or so hours of playtime was this: Breakpoint is going to be a fantastic vehicle through which four friends can link up, do a bunch of fun missions, and shoot the breeze. Sure, it’s deeper and more nuanced than Wildlands, but at its core players will probably get the same (good) thing out of it. In Breakpoint, a cave in the middle of the island called Erewhon serves as your base of operations, and it’s there that you’ll take missions, play Ghost War PvP mode, and more.

When you’re out on the Auroa island proper, there’s plenty to do. Following story missions means you’ll see plenty of Bernthal – mostly in flashbacks in the early part of the campaign I saw – but that’s hardly all there is to it. Various faction missions and general Auroa missions are just a click away, and what makes them fun is that, unless you specifically enable Guided Mode, Breakpoint won’t tell you where you’re supposed to go. You’ll have to use in-world clues about your overall objective to obtain intel that will lead you to your ultimate goal. For instance, you might have to talk to a particular NPC in one area that leads you to get information off of a computer in another. This clever system is even utilized for some weapon upgrades; certain intel you’ll find out in the world will give you the choice of a perk, such as a new weapon blueprint, a bivouac in that spot (bivouacs being important because they allow you to do gear up, save your progress, and get temporary stat boosts before an encounter), or something else. And you’ll upgrade your stats and gear along the way, too.

While you’re on these detective missions, you can choose to travel on foot, boat, dirtbike, dune buggy, pickup truck, helicopter, etc. You’ll encounter enemy hotspots along the way, of course, but even those can be approached multiple ways. Want to sneak around picking people off from a distance with a sniper rifle or up close with your combat knife? Go for it. Want to do what I did, which is to parachute out of your team’s chopper and try to land directly on the tall radio tower you’ve been tasked with getting to, setting off a hornet’s nest of enemy activity in the process? You can do that too.

Ghost War PvP Multiplayer Impressions
I also played an hour of Ghost War PvP multiplayer. Ghost Recon has been the only series I’ve ever really been comfortable using a sniper rifle in, and it just feels so good in Breakpoint. I loved taking overwatch and calling out enemy locations for my teammates (there’s an in-game ping system too). I played on three of the six launch maps on both Elimination and Sabotage modes. “Skell Port” is my favorite so far, as it’s long and narrow and thus snipers can be extremely useful to their team. Sabotage – one team on offense has to plant a bomb, and the other on defense has to defuse it – was great on “R&D Center” too, thanks to the numerous strategies each team could employ.

While Ghost War felt the most “classic Ghost Recon” to me, the open-world campaign seems like it’s going to be a really enjoyable social experience for small groups of friends. Sure, you can run it all solo, but based on my time with Breakpoint, you’ll be missing out on a bit of the fun if you do. Wildlands aside, no other military shooter feels quite like Breakpoint, and that unique vibe should serve it well.

I feel like blacklist worked in spite of a lot of that stuff, not because of it.

Also, while I used to find it amusing, now I’m just frustrated: why do Ubisoft games keep needing to reintroduce moving bodies in stealth games?! Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

there is some form of upgrade system where you can raise the level of your items so presumably you can still do this and just craft a new level 10 hat from your level 5 hat or whatever

Bleh, I feel like more so than ever, all of Ubisoft's titles are collapsing into a Ubisoft singularity. A few years ago, they were all overly similar, but still had some distinguishing characteristics! But I don’t want Odyssey’s mechanics in a ghost recon game at all. They kinda worked for odyssey, but that game is a huge time sink as it is, and now ghost recon is becoming even more of a time sink than Wildlands? Bleh.
