Hub Cat posted:The payouts to the Defendants side is gonna be after the appeal either way and Texas doesn't really require a deposit unfortunately. Texas couldn’t require it, but could the judge demand it as part of sanctions, to prevent them from trying to exhaust defendants via the legal process?

Skwirl posted:There's no residuals for voicing the main character in a popular anime? Like, almost everyone with a speaking part in Twilight or whatever is still collecting checks from that. That’s because they’re members of the Screen Actor’s Guild and the Guild negotiates residual rates. (And works to break “Hollywood accounting” that makes possible claims like “Return of the Jedi hasn’t made money yet, so no residuals.”) In other words, unions good, despite the fact that some people who turn out to be lovely will be seeing money from work they did a long time ago.

The bits that he’s in though must make it clear he’s a piece of poo poo, and not someone for whom the audience should have sympathy despite his hapless representation. Bumbling fools representing a piece of poo poo makes for some fine comedy.

People also don’t seem to realize that there are certain kinds of jobs that you can only really afford to do if you come from money. Ever wonder why so many big-name journalists are WASPs with family connections? Needing an unpaid internship at a prestigious publication in order to get work later in your career kind of filters for that. Ever wonder why some comedians, musicians, etc. come from money? Because that’s the main way you can actually make those careers instead of hobbies. I fully expect voice acting is in that category too.

My assumption—when not looking at people on the Internet who may just be right-wing eugenics assholes—would be that any talk of “curing” autism is less about changing the brains of people living with it, and more about figuring out root cause(s) to reduce the incidence. I can certainly see opinions being divided on whether this is a good idea, see also “eugenics.”

Right, the whole idea of preventing certain kinds of divergence from the “norm” relies on having a “norm” to begin with. Even when there is one, for example hearing, there’s some significant opposition to doing anything about it.

I feel like you’re giving the Florida legislature a lot of credit here did they carefully and methodically craft a system to gently caress people over? or did they happen to create a system to gently caress people over, and upon seeing this double down as hard as they could? nowadays though they would do the latter by adopting model legislation from people working very hard at the former, mainly because the people funding it all realized how easy and cheap it would actually be
