Part of the problem for me with new trek is there's zero charm, the special effects budget is too large and it feels like a totally different franchise like Star Wars or Avatar. I guess I understand vaseline on the lens and cardboard sets and props wouldn't be received well in 2021 but transparent screens and sharp busy displays just look strange in star trek, and all the dang JJ lens flare!!!

I do dig the klingon design in discovery independant of everything else

Casino Royale is such a good-rear end movie and a high-stakes poker game being the method he takes down the bad guy works so well. The relationship arc with Eva Green and her betrayal owns too and is well done.

Also, and this is from a YT vid I saw on it, it's the one Craig Bond movie where he is actually smiling a lot which is why it's the best/not mopey.

James Bond needs to have fun. Quantum of Solace? Goes to dry desert, gets all sandy and oily, very unpleasant. Skyfall? Joints are all achey, unpleasant family memories, goes to creepy island. Spectre? Has overwhelming social anxiety at a Spectre party, gets tied to a torture chair- not fun!!!

Watching The Last Duel (excellent movie btw, big reccommend) made me yearn for a big budget Joan of Arc biopic. Relatedly, how loving long am I gonna have to wait for a big-budget epic Napoleon/Genghis Khan movie

Instead we get triple million dollar budget stinker superhero movies, year after year....

Justin Tyme

I've actually seen that Joan of Arc movie, but as far as I remember it wasn't that great

China will release a Genghis Khan epic that takes off worldwide like how Parasite did and it will be snubbed for an Oscar due to sinophobia

Edit: a Ridley Scott Napoleon biopic is Extremely My poo poo and if its anything like The Last Duel it'll whip big rear end, but because we live in the bad universe it'll be about as good as Robin Hood was.

Honestly though idk how you could even do a Napoleon movie and not have it end up being a turd like Alexander, it'd work best as a miniseries or a conventional two or three seasons, and I guess there's an adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's script in the works at HBO but it might be stuck in development hell. Going from officer during the revolution/Egypt to being exiled to Elba to returning for the hundred days and then being turbo-exiled to St Helena in the course of an hour and a half would make Napoleon just seem like this really annoying dude who wouldn't go away instead of the giant he was

I don't think there's a way to make a live action Ed even work tbh, it's one of those things that just doesn't translate between mediums whatsoever

case in point: the clip above, objectively, sure, that's Ed's character in the flesh, but seeing it in motion with real live people just straight up doesn't work yet is totally necessary for the character.

The framing of the movie being one sequence of events shown through three unique perspectives where things are slightly different worked super well and reminded me of Dunkirk but done way better. It was interesting how very slight camera perspective/dialogue changes have such a big impact on characterization.

my god, matrix 4 blew rear end. i honestly don't remember much about the first matrix movie, let alone the rest of that trilogy, but i remember it at least being fun and looking cool. even the action sequences were bad in this one, just marvel-esque boredom and working around the fact that keanu is too old to carry an action movie. that's ignoring the plot which was just 90% incomprehensible exposition and character moments for what amounts to extras. i don't care about - and i had to look up their names - sati, sequoia, sheperd, berg, lexy, bugs or any of those central casting losers.

why would a scene where you fire bullets at a guy whose main deal it has been established is stopping bullets be in any way suspenseful??? why were there cutesy robot sidekicks?

anyway, i know you goons love this slop, so a pre-emptive suck my dick

I am partial to the interpretation of Lana just chaos dunking the matrix into the trash (metaphorically, she wanted to bring back Neo and Trinity for her own personal reasons though) in order to kill WB's own spinoffs in the cradle.

I hope its not in the title either the whole premise is a mystery where you try to guess which video game is being used as source material

This is an interesting concept for a (bad but gimmicky enough to be noteworthy) movie and hope its this but it won't be, it would require no trailers to be released at all

The concept would fall apart when the first ten seconds of the movie is the rock walking on set in a comically too-small luigi costume

I like the robert fett show, you just gotta come at it without focusing too much on the character's baggage of being "that guy everyone thought was badass in the 90's" and just enjoy it for the samurai western it is. Agree its weird though considering how similar it is with the mandalorian, a show that already exists, with the same characters!

Halo though, now that seems like a show nobody asked for or needs. Give us a dang half-life series loaded with body horror and mega downers happening all the time

I haven't watched any star wars poo poo since episode 8, what's the CGI zombie young Luke doing in that TV show with baby Yoda, I thought he got old and died

Someone give me like a three sentence plot summary here pls I want to understand what everyone's talking about on the internet but don't want to watch star wars

hes building a new jedi academy with adult asohka. he does lots of backflips with baby yoda in the same baby carrier as boomer yoda (except this trains the yoda somehow, instead of vice versa) and repeats many of the same classic yoda lines but with correct grammar. mandalorian shows up in a rodded out naboo starfighter and leaves after dropping off a chainmail baby onesie. luke brandishes yoda's old lightsaber at baby yoda, im assuming the galactic senate has inattentive janitors and luke went on an open house visit at some point

the luke cgi looks better than mandalorian s2 finale but is still very noticable. they use an ai-generated voice for luke that sounds like luke just got back from a dentist appointment/root canal

When people say they're sexless, they mean there is a lack of passion/explicitly romantic relationships- this can be done without fully nude sex scenes though.

Personally I can't put a finger on why exactly the recent trend of more nudity and more explicit sex on TV is bad, necessarily. I guess it just feels kind of lazy? Like, we need to make Lord of the Rings edgier and more mature, let's show more nudity.
