Reddit posted:

It's actually a thing, (not in real life of course), and it exists sort of as a stepping stone for ancaps to move into fascism. The whole ideology is a bit of a joke, so forgive me if my description isn't too generous. Also, like anarcho-capitalism, anarcho-monarchism is more of a thought experiment than anything else (so don't expect much with regard to practicalities).

So, basically, anarcho-monarchism sees the anti-democratic tradition of monarchism and seeks to repurpose it towards individualism, correctly identifying liberal democracy as the biggest obstacle to any stateless society. The idea is basically that a monarch could serve as a foil to the state, rather than a figurehead. The special status of the monarch could be based mainly upon invocations of ancient volkish nonsense like divine right, kinship, blood and soil, hereditary succession, and so on. However, instead of sharing power with (or being controlled by) the state, the monarch's central purpose is to serve as a sort of dark messiah that strikes it down wherever it emerges. In doing so the monarch ensures that both the freedom of the people, whilst also eliminating a threat to their special sort of 'rule.' I use quotation marks because this system is distinctly not feudal, the monarch doesn't sit atop a hierarchy based on land and vassalage.

TL;DR: Ancapistan with a King Batman running around preventing the state from re-emerging. Stepping stone for ancaps who already know they don't care for the poor, minorities, and democracy, but have just realised that an unchecked strongman is actually really handy for establishing and enforcing a socio-economic ideal, especially one that favours the free exercise of hegemonic power with no regard for systemic oppression, structural violence, or genuinely egalitarian social participation. "Show me a society where I could maximise specifically my freedom as a white male, without giving up privileges. Also not fascism, kthxbai" more or less.

Also Reddit posted:

Well the term itself can mean various things to different people, but mainly it's the idea that monarchism and anarchism are compatible. To understand this first I've got to explain two things :

This is an ideology derived/ based in anarcho capitalism. So don't think of "anarchism" as left anarchism or anarcho-communism. Anarcho capitalism deffends that we could live in an anarchy with individual rights and property rights. Left anarchism is for sure not compatible with monarchism.
  • Monarchies (absolute) are in it's nature private property. This is very well explained by Hans Hermann Hoppe. Let's put examples. England wasn't property of the state of England, it was property of the King. Everyone who did business or lived in the kingdom had to pay to it's King. If a king died, the kingdom went to his heir, just like any other private property. The king was legally able to do whatever he wanted with his kingdom. There wasn't a thing such as the "State of England". Administration and government worked FOR the king. If the king died, the following one could choose to change anything. This idea of course, ends with parlamentarism and democratic states.
  • Having this stablished, I define myself anarcho-monarchist because I think that in an anarchist society, Kingdoms would appear. Land owners would act as kings of their property. Cities, towns and people who were stablished in their territory would pay for protection and other services. This has some similarities with feudal europe yet you can't think it would be like middle ages (any contract between land owners and citizens would be private and could be brought to a judge).
Of course there would be no need that monarchies would exist but if you look at history and how communities and ancap works, it is the most probable situation. Of course, monarchies would be much smaller (since I don't think that someone could be able to buy the amounts of land that England, Spain or France have) which would stimulate competitiveness between kingdoms to offer the best living situations.
Also, I'd recommend you to check the Prince of Liechtenstein's, his Majesty Hans Adam II ideas since he is, in some way, a libertarian. People in this sub prefer ignoring this though. Check his book "the state in the third millennium".

quote:

Hey. IRL integralist here so I might be able to help answer this question. The general idea is based on the teaching from Catholic social doctrine of subsidiarity, which is basically that matters should be handled by the lowest, most decentralized competent authority, starting with the family and the parish and working up, often within the context of local elites, etc. It's typically worked in with a distributist economic model. So while the king has absolute authority, its only over a very limited set of things, those things which only could be handled at the national level. This is basically idea is found generally throughout integralist movements, such as that in Portugal, Carlism, or Action Francaise.

This seems like a good place to talk about my one experience with an anarchist.

When I was pursuing my Master's degree there was a girl I had classes with who was an avowed anarchist. She would bring it up a lot in class, not necessarily in a controversial way, more like a "I need everyone to know this about me" a lot. She also worked for the university, which was public and state-funded.

Anyway, in one of our policy classes we had a project to develop a policy idea and present it to the class, who would then talk about it's merits and risks and political feasibility and what not.

Her presentation was over something called "Native American Land Reclamation Act" or something, of which the basic premise was complete de-colonization of America. She pulled up a big map of the US that outlined all the lands that were taken from the various Native American tribes by settlers (it was all of the continental US), and she basically outlined a plan to give all of the land back to the tribes. I wasn't trying to razz her or anything, but I was trying to figure out exactly how a policy like this would possibly work.

I completely ignored the difficulty of passing it legislatively. I asked "Native Americans make up like, what, 2% of the US population? So what happens to the other 98% of the American population? Are they deported?" and she goes "No, but they'll have to live by the rules of the individual tribal leaders and the way their customs/cultures dictate". So I asked "What about like, entire cities and private property and national infrastructure? Is that turned over to the...like 10 million people of Native ancestry and they get control of everything? What about private property?" and she was kind of like "Uh yeah it'll be redistributed". I didn't ask how.

The degree we were both pursuing was a Master's in Public Administration.
