While the torture scene was super gross I do have to laugh at the idea it basically devolving into a cartoon at the end there where he lowered the body into the water and pulled up a full skeleton with all the flesh removed and somehow it doesn't just completely fall apart.

Silly me, I thought the recruited Z-Team would go into action searching for lost children instead of gassing airports and assassinating serial-numbers-filed-off Sun Myung Moon, who just happened to be the bad guy at the POW camp who kicked off ethnic slur Joe's religious transformation. Odd that Tulsa wasn't the one newspaper that told it like it was. Unless DAVROCK suspended the press. In short,

Super awesome that the guy in SF just killed people for coming up and talking to him at an airport. And how he just killed everyone in a bathroom just because they were homosexual (also anyone else who just happens to walk in after he did that.) Kind of confused that the author seems to think gay people don't have jobs.

Surprised that the author didn’t try to explain his “and somehow none of these queermo qultists seemed to notice they were being hit with poison needles” by stating that they were all on poppers and thus numbed to any pain but then remembered that is way too much drug info for him to actually know.

This book is really confusing with its racism. Like you have the South Africa and Rhodesia boosting plus the fact that only one of the main characters is black (and then only "half" black) but it also has the bad guys espousing a lot of racist beliefs while saying they're wrong. Also not sure where it's going with the comparisons between the Nazi and Courtney Davenport.

muscles like this! posted:Also not sure where it's going with the comparisons between the Nazi and Courtney Davenport. Yeah, I thought their being basically the same was the author being blind to their own faults and accidentally writing a protagonist who had all the same beliefs as a literal Nazi, but it turns out that's intentional? So it really seems like the issue is branding; being a violent, homophobic, misogynistic, white-supremacist fascist is great - as long as you're doing it under a red, white and blue flag and not a black, white and red one.

The answer is on the back cover: the two protagonists have to go to war with eachother at the end of the book. Edit: smoke those marijuana leaves, boyos. It's completely legal! Speleothing has issued a correction as of 20:59 on Sep 28, 2019 |

I'm all caught up, and Jesus tap-dancing Christ, this book is bad! Even ignoring the content, why is he still constantly introducing new characters without fleshing out the tens of one-dimensional characters he's already introduced? I don't know what I was expecting from a Soldier of Fortune endorsed novel, but basic readability would be a nice start. I can't remember if I've mentioned it in this thread, but my fiance is a professional fiction editor at a major publisher and worked at Tor early in her career (although long after this book was published, and in a different genre). I'm going to describe the plot and pacing of this trainwreck while we're at dinner tonight and see if she has any funny comments or anecdotes I can post here. I apologize for skimping on the commentary. I thought I'd have more free time at work last week. I'm still planning on going back through and writing a brief synopsis of each chapter while they're fresh in my mind so that I never have to read this piece of poo poo again! A hearty thanks to everyone who has stuck with it this far. Let's keep slogging through this mess. The next chapter is a long one.

Going back to Chapter 11, I just wanted to mention how I liked that Counter-Cult One™ only rescued a chosen few from Satan's Pot Farm™. Maybe I missed it in the text, but I wonder how many cultists they left to be burned alive? I mean, they deserved it of course for smoking the Devil's Lettuce™, but still.

Wow, pretty much every plan that depended on an Indian ended in utter disaster, why weren't the Indians guarding the family? Why were the Indians so bad at oil drilling they caused the rig to explode and were the only ones not wearing hard hats at the work site? Then the author dedicates pages to how awesome Cherokee are, by Nazi standards.

Also the creepy part about Susan making goo goo eyes at the Nazi. Like the rest of the bad guys are all described as horrible, ugly people but for some reason the Nazi is all handsome and debonair (except when he's torturing people.) Really not a fan of the "murdering children" section of the book either.
