muscles like this! posted:Also the creepy part about Susan making goo goo eyes at the Nazi. Like the rest of the bad guys are all described as horrible, ugly people but for some reason the Nazi is all handsome and debonair (except when he's torturing people.) I haven't been carefully reading this so I might be wrong: I don't think Susan and Olivia have seen the Nazi guy in the compound, just his underling (son?) with the torture fetish. And why is the lesbian Nazi doctor letting Olivia out of her sight, much less off to make kissy-face with not-as-attractive-as-Blast-Hardcheese soldier? quote:Really not a fan of the "murdering children" section of the book either. Me too. Extra-frustrating that the cultist who did it is going to get more security on the way to the de-brainwashing place than the children of the recently defected enemy. But we can't show the good guys making a mistake or being vulnerable (like being on guard and getting knocked out, etc.) so let's blame it on the Cherokees. Like, Courtney, you promised this guy that you could do a better job than the CIA, and I think the CIA was doing a fine job before you showed up. This being C-SPAM, someone can probably go into more depth than I can about the Nixon CIA. From what I know, he pretty much wanted to dismantle it and replace it with basically fascists, the director at the time fired a lot of people, and it left the CIA top-heavy with too many managers and not enough agents in the field. EDIT: update on previous page.

The lizard fantasies of the reactionary mind are so dull and repetitive that they almost thud off of the page. Just a desire to own tacky crap and relentlessly control people and then murder anyone who they think isn't with the program.

I added a bunch of characters from the last few chapters to the OP. Also, I mentioned yesterday that my fiance had worked at TOR and that I'd ask her about editorial duties there. It turns out that I was mistaken, and she had worked at ROC. My bad (although they both publish similar sci-fi stuff). However, she did/ does know know some people who work at TOR, and said they had a reputation for being a cultish place to work. Like, the employees are extremely devoted and protective of TOR in a way that publishers of other properties are typically not. So there you go. I also told her about this terrible book and how the author drops new characters into almost every single chapter without developing the ones that have already been introduced. She didn't have much to add besides she was glad this wasn't a book she had to work on, and also she would tell the author to cut out a bunch of the lesser characters and focus on the ones we already know.

I think that “They presses their pelvises together until Angel’s hardness found her furry softness.” may be the least-erotic erotic sentence ever devised.

It's erotic in the same way that "delicious with exhaustion" makes sense.

Why is the liberal Senator a liberal from Virginia? The whole world is upside-down, topsy-turvy, higgledy-piggledy in this crazy book!! EDIT: Also, what is a "Bill of Rights" for cults? I wish the author had included the text for that document. How are "cults" defined in this dystopian version of 1989? Dr. Killjoy posted:I see cult deprogramming means programming them for a different kind of cult. Yeah, this chapter is especially insane. So they kidnap all of these kids out of cults, and then immediately indoctrinate them into another, far worse cult where they are forced to travel to Paraguay in a sketchy cocaine submarine and then slit a bunch of people's throats for various reasons including thoughtcrime? I also like that they use the Tower of Power to send coded messages ordering their brainwashed minions to kill. I also like the descriptions of Dr. Hilda: This was in the previous chapter: Dr. Hilda's uncontrollable lesbian desire to hatefuck Susan Rockland is another lovely bonkers twist.

I just finished scanning the rest of the book. There are 7 more chapters and an epilogue (or about 136 more pages). I had been thinking of posting the rest of it before the weekend, but that's probably too much for everyone to keep up with. Also, I don't want to rush this amazing work of art. I think I'll post one more chapter today, a few tomorrow, and we can finish this bad boy early next week. I still plan to write a brief synopsis of each chapter and organize the character list, hopefully before we get to the end of the book. Definitely before the thread gets archived. Chapter 18:

Oh no, the bad guys brought in top commandos, what will the counter cult troops do? Oh, they were all killed before the counter cult troops showed up, never mind. Also Nick growing the handlebar mustache seems really weird because that's definitely not in style in the 80's.

Wow, that is another insane chapter. Here are some highlights: Hilda is Josef Mengele's grand-niece: It turns out that the mysterious force that massacred the cult in the last chapter were Navy Seals sent by the Secretary of State to clear the way for his daughter, Patty: And Barrajas is a hermaphrodite; Olivia Davenport's mind was destroyed when she found out: Davenport is a psychopath, which was already pretty apparent:
