this is a thread to talk about what dns service to use. googles dns is bad because, well, its google. opendns blocks porn lol at giving cloudflare even more of your browsing data so what do you guys use? for a while i was janitoring my dns server on a vps, using the "trust-dns" rust project. its written in rust so you know its fast. but recently ive been using safedns because its easier and only $19.95 per year for home use. what are you guys using.

Goog's because it's easy to remember. It's important that it's easy to remember because i never change it and any time i would im next to a computer anyway

I stopped using my isp's DNS bc it's unreliable and goes down sometimes and my isp has enough trouble with just being a pipe to the internet that I don't want them to take care of more things than they strictly need to

isp dnses often have that garbo where it goes to a search page if the url is wrong instead of a 404. they allow opting out but it’s done via a cookie on the device so nope

i have it set to 1.1.1.1 and i used to use 8.8.8.8 basically if you have a fun and exciting new dns service with a novel ip i will probably use it!

It has required exactly one piece of whitelist janitoring to make a streaming service work, otherwise it is extremely good.
