It really is a fantastic pilot and all the little background details are intriguing. IMO episodes 3, 5 and 6 are even better than the pilot so I'm excited to see how people react to them.

Rewatching first episode. Don Johnson's death may not be what it seems. His quote after the weapons release "it's my funeral," that was sneaky. 7th Cavalry was Custer's unit and responsible for wiping out the Indians, so ethnic cleansing. So going to guess that racism and alt right views are threatening to destabilize the world in some fashion. Given the one racist kid talked about "Redfordations" at the being of the episode, I'm going to guess Redford is a liberal president. That liberalism gained a solid footing after Nixon left office and with 30 years of liberal policies a lot of things can get addressed, things that will piss off people that are fellow travellers with the 7th Cav. Also I'm guessing liberalism is starting to wane and that the President being an older guy but powerful is essentially the last stop gap before some a bunch of stupid racists have their way. So something needs to happen that now takes the focus off race and makes alt right views moot.

In the Watchmen it was the specter of mutually assured destruction, which was offset by the threat of inter-dimensional alien invasions. So now Veidt has something planned that involves Doctor Manhattan, who was the son of a watch maker, hence the title of the play. So perhaps Veidt plans to convince Dr. Manhattan that the only way to protect humanity is to make humanity like a will driven watch. So his robotic servants are the Adam and Eve of a hybrid humanity programmed to be mindless dipshits where conformity is achieved through brainless obedience.

I'll see if the New Frontiersman will publish these findings.

Edit: Listen to the radio right Don Johnson gets killed. They talk about all kinds of liberal policies that these assholes hate and some dystopian Alt Righter mounting a challenge for the White House.

Oh hell it popped into my head as I went to sleep. The robot servants, the old lithium cancer causing batteries. Veidt is behind making a robotic Dr. Manhattan who is going to come and enforce a get-a-long gang world order. What makes everyone act nice and be constantly afraid? A big blue god that blasts you with cancer. Veidt has to make a robo-cop Manhattan because the real one is so disconnected from humanity he couldn't give two fucks to save it again. But the fun part is perhaps in making robo-Manhattan the real one notices a distortion blocking his sight into the future like the last time, and that causes him to come and correct the problem with less than stellar results. After all nothing ends.

I assumed the point of the scene was to highlight how delusional and disconnected from reality Veidt has become since the original story. He�s still the same amoral bastard who�ll kill his underlings for minor reasons, but now he�s doing it purely to serve his own vanity. This play is some odd attempt to turn Dr. Manhattan�s story into some classical mythos he controls and understands, but he�s just doing it for himself. It�s very strange.

I will have a good chuckle if Veidt is nothing more than a red herring this season.

So pretty sure Veidt is nuts, the game waren is a Veidt clone meant to keep him under control because Veidt knows he would just get crazier. Plus Veidt wanted someone of equal intelligence to occasionally spar with.

Laurie is wildly immoral. Shooting a fleeing suspect in the back intending to kill him because of her beef with Veidt, her involvement in covering up Veidt's crime, shooting the 7th Cav bomber despite the danger of the suicide vest going off, banging her subordinate, and of course lying to herself that she is better than a vigilante. Her mask is an FBI agent and she gets to hide behind law and order while quietly carrying out her own brand of justice.

Here is a thought Veidt takes a knee but has a successor in the person who "bought" his company to carry out his next plan. Trieu is the one looking out for Will the wheelchair guy who is following some game plan, I doubt he cares much for society so he is probably down for some bloodshed if it leads to retribution. The SUV that got dropped on Laurie is the one that belonged to Angela that got lifted away by a ship. So the Doctor Manhattan confession booths are just a way to pick up information from people. Probably the type of people that are burdened with looking after the world and the occasional sad sack. In the process of hearing Laurie's whale song of loneliness they decided to drop the car right in front of her to knock her off her game. Rather than thinking about the conspiracy she is thinking about a giant blue dick on Mars.

So now I have the feeling that giant clock tower is a giant strobe light. Maybe it will go "Liberals kill conservatives, conservatives kill yourselves," or "White people game over, go jump off a bridge." I'm hoping its the first one and done in a way where the strobe goes over a Fox style news cast for the commentary conservatives will do anything Fox tells them. Again nothing new but kinda funny and sinister at the same time.

Seems weird Dr. Manhattan would regain a sense of humanity then to simply lose it again. I don't think his prison for Veidt was his attempt at life. I think he made it knowing it would hold him just long enough that it no longer mattered.

Probably while jacked up on that elephant IV drip they scanned her memories. The elephant brain being sufficient enough as a storage space and whatever. After all Will Reeves said she would hate him, so he placed the drugs there for her to intentionally take. They milk her brain for memories of Dr. Manhattan because they know at some point she met him in Vietnam but the trail ran cold. Then the surprise is that Dr. Manhattan did something to inhabit a host body he made, whack out his power to see into the future so he could function like a normal rear end in a top hat and as a result could never see any of this coming.

I will consider it poor writing on the show's part if they do kill or depower Dr. Manhattan.

Watching this episode made me want to create a D&D style game that involves up to 8 players. It would be called "the gods of annoying poo poo." Each player has one power and one power only and then proceed to be largely useless and the cause of petty annoyances. Their relationship with the world is largely parasitic, they need believers to exist and keep them from being bored aside from loving with each other. Much like Veidt and Manhattan.
