It was actually paced well enough that you have time to put it together before she reaches the house. May not end up being a good reveal, but like everything else it’s executed well.

So according to Peteypedia, Cal shows up in 2009. Ozy disappears in 2012, so maybe Manhattan didn't put him there after all. Maybe it was Lube Man.

Timeless Appeal posted:Also my prediction for the end: Joe gets transformed but just becomes a gross abomination. The big reveal is that it's not just the accident. Jon was an uniquely impressive individual for being able to put himself back together... something the book supports. The White Supremacist tries to live out his fantasies of being objectively superior only to have it objectively proven to him that the Jewish-Now-Black Dr. Manhattan is better than him. Like, maybe the 7th Kavalry, in their attempts to usurp the power of Dr. Manhattan, could actually end up embodying an honest version of the Squid Attack. In reconstructing themselves with his powers, they may become an apocalyptic evil that actually unites the world against white supremacy for a good reason. Although the way this is going I almost wouldn't be surprised if the Manhattan-ification of a shithead white supremacist just turns out to be a big farting blob of inbred idiocy that does nothing and then just kinda dies or something. EDIT: Although, to clarify, it's important not to forget that Dr. Manhattan was perfectly complicit in all kinds of white supremacy on his own. He wasn't consciously a racist, but his participation in the Vietnam War and especially his behavior when the Comedian murders the woman carrying his child (possibly Trieu's origin? as people have referenced already) make it pretty clear that casual pro-America racism is already pretty baked into his character. It's interesting for the Dr. to have taken these efforts to change his perspective but I hope we get a solid explanation on what exactly caused him to change his mind. My partner is going to flip when she sees this ep. Cal had employment records from Pyramid Global. I think Manhattan did send Veidt to Europa, but because he was asked to. Maybe in exchange, Veidt agreed to help Manhattan become Cal. But then Veidt becomes bored with the place, puts a plan together to go home, and that involves setting up an SOS at the right time to where his daughter's satellite will see it. Then he just waits for a rescue.

Someone said Veidt would be dipped in gold because of the stupid villagers. What if him not offering a defense was all part of the plan. Preserved in gold he can be transported back to Earth, DNA retrieved whatever left of his brain is used to make nostalgia.

After all Will Reeves said she would hate him, so he placed the drugs there for her to intentionally take. They milk her brain for memories of Dr. Manhattan because they know at some point she met him in Vietnam but the trail ran cold. Then the surprise is that Dr. Manhattan did something to inhabit a host body he made, whack out his power to see into the future so he could function like a normal rear end in a top hat and as a result could never see any of this coming. I will consider it poor writing on the show's part if they do kill or depower Dr. Manhattan.

Yeah, it has to be more than just shoving someone into an IFG. If it were that easy, the soviets would have made one, because even if the americans had the moral fiber not to try shoveling men into a death trap in the search for superman, the soviets were pretty much required to attempt it the exact same way they needed to create an atomic bomb. My best guess right now would be that they have access to the same sort of mind control tech as grandpappy Will, and intend to use it on Manhattan in order to make him compliant long enough to get him into the 'steal your powers chamber'. That, or the newly awakened Jon is going to be too weak to defend himself. Given this is Dr. Manhattan, I can't see him getting taken out conventionally. It is worth remembering that they were testing a teleportation gate when LG was in the facility earlier, Since the gate appears to be the doorway on the cage (or whatever) they are building, it definitely doesn't look like they are using an intrinsic field generator. The bigger question seems to be simply, what the gently caress is up with Lady Trieu. She clearly knows or at least seriously suspects that Cal is Manhattan. Given that she is the world's only trillionaire, it seems like it would be child's play to either protect Cal or wipe out the 7k, but she hasn't taken steps to do either from the look of things. Time travel still seems (sadly) to be the most likely. Stop Manhattan from ever becoming manhattan, or something similarly out there.

TBH I thought the ep was going to end without answering that question and Angela doing something else and I woulda been pissed. No wonder Cal was ??? about it

I'm guessing Veidt helped make Jon into Cal in exchange for his own utopia on Europa, sick of the fact that his egalitarian utopia experiment didn't pan out after 1985 and all that transpired. I mean they call him master for gently caress's sake. He gifts his company to Trieu for helping, he won't need it after that. He gets sick of it and knows about the satellite and gets out of it. Either encased in gold or literally just gold (Manhattan's thermodynamic miracle). Then in the next episode or two after they get done explaining how it was he came to be, he'll turn Veidt back into a man.

I could see it, it's entirely possible that Dr. Manhattan left those on Europa with the decree "thou shalt not leave" and after he sent Veidt, lacking any context to the commandment, well, they just decided he had to not leave either. At first it wasn't a problem because he could go horseback riding and have his weird purple cake but it gets old I suppose. I still don't quite understand the macabre play and how that factors in.

I feel like an idiot for not getting that Cyclops = Eye in the forehead = Hydrogen atom. Not sure if the 7th Kavalry just co-opted the old Cyclops brand for their new plan, or if time travel fuckery is afoot that could place Dr. M back in the 40s as well. Rewatching the series after this all plays out is going to be a treat to see how much of the Cal stuff and whatever the endgame is are sprinkled throughout.
