Jeremy Irons is playing Dr Manhattan I think. He wanted to go off And create life. And the life that surrounds irons character seems still kinda dumb, like he's still working through his designs. He has a castle which we see Dr Manhattan prototyping on Mars.

The Jeremy Irons scenes don't have to be on Mars or contemporary to the case of the Calvary story.

I just read a screenrant article and they assumed all this would be told at the same time but like completely overlooked that Dr Manhattan gives a good excuse to time skip around when you tell your story. See Westworld

There is also the possibility that Viedt Manhattaned himself and stepped into the Intrinsic Field subtractor at some point.

But, why then, did the servent give Jeremy Irons a pocket watch? Wouldn't that kind of gift have way more meaning to Dr Manhattan? His dad was a watch maker.

Am I wrong, or did the shot of Dr. Manhattan on Mars show him building a replica of Veidt's castle estate hideout and turning it into dust?

Toxic Fart Syndrome posted:

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed about it...they framed each shot in the same way, giving it the same perspective, so it seems intentional.

Yes exactly. Lets not call him Veidt yet tho, too confusing, he's just Jeremy Irons so far. There was also that transition, which someone already pointed out. They went from stars at the end of the archie crash scene to a rock/stone pathway that Jeremy Irons was ring on. Like, how could they telegraph it any harder that they just cut to a scene off planet. They looked up at the stars and we were then thrust into a new scene.

Here's what I think is going to happen with that char. The Dr Manhattan we see in the TV was in the early states of building life still (why he is on mars and not already very far away like he said he would be at the end of the comic book I dunno, but maybe he stayed on mars for a couple decades).

Ok so he is experimenting on Mars. Then, much later and farther away he gets his first couple iterations of terraforming a planet and putting beings on it and is currently living amongst them and making the re-experience certain parts of human society's evolution. Remember, Dr Manhattan's story is non-linear, so just because we see Dr Manhattan on Mars and doing rudiemetry stuff doesn't mean we can't also see him much futher along in the same ep. They could just be time jumping and not telling us to tell the story. It also may explain the squid rain - Dr Mahattan is nearby and he may be producing them to keep the fear of the Squid Monster in peoples minds.

So, Dr Mahattan's story can used as a jumping around tool for the narrators, like the man in black in WestWorld Season 1.

There is the possibility though that Viedt realized what it took to make Dr Mahattan, and made himself a manhattan like figure by stepping into the IF field thingy. Remember what he did to his pet cat in Antarctica? He could have done it to himself inbetween the end of the movie and now.

Exactly, there's like multiple backup explanations that align with what we KNOW for sure about Manhattan to indicate it's him. There's none for Viedt, it's just speculation. Combine that with all the nods to the comic books, and I think it's giving us a compass heading on how much we can infer and trust is still canon from the comic and can be considered for projecting guesses about the series.

Or Viedt turn himself into a manhattan type figure by going through the same process that manhattan did. Viedt had the machine for it, and he used it on Manhattan and his cat. Either way, I think Jeremy Iron's is playing a post IF subtractor subject character

I read the hbo compendium and I was kind of torn about the readability of rorahachs journal. It seems to say that the journal the cops got when they busted him was encrypted, is that right? The thing about breaking bad, and you get to hear this if you listen to the official podcast, is that yes they were great skilled writers navigating creating a story with threads, and knowing how to write those in a way where they didn't know the end but also didn't write themselves into a corner to resolve it as the giant machine of television churns years over years over seasons of seasons.

It's waaay more skilled to be a writer that can do that than one that has a story from beginning to end before day 1 shoot.

Angela is parts of Rorshach for sure, violent, black and white world view, but she is less rorsash in the sense that she has personal relationships, a social life, etc. Glass was eating home alone out a tv dinner, and doesn't really seem to have relationships and of course is gruff and never takes off the mask.

In regards to visual form/structure, editing, sound design, etc, the show is remarkably dense in this same regard so far. It might not reach the same heights as the comic, especially being in a vastly different format, but its most definitely trying to pack in as much visual/sound subtlety into every scene as the comic has. The editing alone is absolutely putting every artistic theory on editing to work. Even just two episodes in theyre have a ton of fun with juxtaposition and shot/scene transition to hint at deeper meaning.

Ive watched the pilot 3 times already and on each viewing Ive caught a bunch of new stuff.

Even this last time I watched it, its not quite a "pun", but you can hear the electric engines of the cars "powering down" when turned off. This is most noticeable when Judd gets his tires spiked and gets outta the truck. Its such a subtle touch of world building, but so stark in contrast of what we know cars to sound like in our world.
It does such a good job and is so stimulating that I plan on rewatching and at least putting together a list of "things that were interesting to note."
