i live in a county where the same clique of land barons have sat on the supervisor board for ages to the point that you straight up cant open a business here unless you hire a board member's monolithic engineering company for it. it's pretty epic. and because theres a lot of white flight racists here, either from the 80s or more recently, they will never get voted out of power because they're smart enough to just never say anything that can be interpreted as racist despite constantly blocking section 8 housing or new food kitchens etc and people ask me why I'm so hostile to the middle class lol.

i made a thread about NY city & state politics, feel free to peruse it if you so choose. we just voted to institute ranked-choice voting for city elections. it's unclear whether it will significantly change things (doubtful) also we voted "yes" on a rainy day fund for the city but it means nothing unless it's passed by the state government. NYC has less control over its own affairs than Scranton, PA, which as far as i can tell is a legacy of Progressive-era anti-Tammany Hall politics a century ago

my city government just had an election where the democrats took the city council but the republicans kept the mayors office but the republican mayor is one of those "if i say or do a bad thing it might scare business" types so he's campaigned against the gay marriage ban and other poo poo which makes him more progressive than most dems in indiana

Thankfully the council makeup went from like (R)5-4 to like 3-6("D") with a couple of the new folks being prettymuch socialists in the latest election. Though the big old encumbent rear end in a top hat who lost his seat is doing some legal challenge fuckery saying the lady who beat him actually lives at her abusive ex-husbands house (that she left like 3yrs ago) who is outside city limits and therefore she is ineligible. Anyways speaking of NJ let me congratulate the NJ dems on being so loving incompetent that the GOP managed to flip a couple seats because of how much you guys suck. You know the guys who were cold in the ground 2 years ago. Good job

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpAi70WWBlw Sinclair Media made a documentary about why homeless are really wild animals that should be put down if those dirty libs on city council weren't so soft. It also shows up in my youtube recommendations.

We’ve got elections coming next March and the local conservative party (which, despite the state party‘s swing to the right recently, has remained relatively sane) just announced their candidates. Their list is actually the youngest by far and also has like 30% women which is halfway to a revolution for them, but because they figure that they’re gonna lose the mayoral vote against the popular incumbent anyway their top candidate is the most boring man alive who actually managed to lose a parish council election against me of all people, lol. His only purpose will be to get sacrificed so that no better candidate will have to eat a defeat, it’s kinda sad really

any Coloradans in here? i'd love to get a quick rundown of who's running for that senate seat, looks like there's multiple candidates with an amazing overlap of being for M4A, pro-union, and not loving hickenlooper
