Hi Robert. Just wanted to say I love your podcast even though I skip half the episodes for the sake of my own mental health (due to the subject matter, not the podcast itself). Keep up the good work!

If we are doing requests, I'd love to see an episode on Shoko Asahara and Aum Shinrikyo. It's mind boggling how the world has utterly forgotten what was essentially a real life version of COBRA.

Happy Hedonist posted:Hey Robert, may I request an episode on Flint? Between the sit down strike, white flight, and the current water crises there is a rich history there that should be told more often. That reminds me that anyone interested in BtB should also check out Swindled. They are on hiatus right now but their last season finale was about Flint. Much like BtB, episodes can alternate between crushingly depressing and rather humorous thanks to the host's deadpan delivery. AceOfFlames fucked around with this message at 07:53 on Apr 22, 2020 |

Bust Rodd posted:The Regan fortune teller lady is one of my faves too because his guests end up siding with her when she was clearly taking advantage of sad and mentally ill people (like the President and his wife) but they just are like completely Ra Ra Ra around her girl boss energy. Deeply upsetting conclusion but still good content I got the impression it was just as much "gently caress Reagan" as "You go girl", imho.

Neo_Crimson posted:I haven't listened to every podcast, but did they really get a Koch Industries ad, or was that just a joke? It's not a joke. A lot of the time podcast ads are inserted automatically by an ad network the podcasters partner with with no input from the latter which occasionally leads to stuff like this. Of course misguided ad attempts even without algorithms: the host of Swindled, a podcast that's as anti-comsumerist, anti-corruption and anti-captialist as they come, was personally contacted with an ad proposal from the Mike Bloomberg campaign of all people (whose ads ALSO appeared on BtB) AceOfFlames fucked around with this message at 07:00 on May 7, 2020 |

Chairman Capone posted:Or like the Quaker Oats radiation study. Basically Quaker Oats funded an MIT study on how the body absorbs radiation, which it did by creating a bogus "science club" at a school for mentally handicapped boys and secretly feeding them oatmeal that had been laced with radioactive materials. The crazy thing is that Quaker Oats did this to get good promotion at a time when they were competing against Cream of Wheat, and this is part of the reason why Quakers Oats became so dominant and Cream of Wheat faded. So they ran a radiation experiment...to advertise oats?

DC Murderverse posted:I’m listening to the first part of the Golden Age of Terrorism and I have not laughed this hard at a podcast in a long time. Who knew that taking command of an airplane through threat of being shot in the face would be so light and hilarious? It really says a lot that that two parter is probably one of the funniest eps in the podcast in months. I had heard the name Carlos the Jackal multiple times but never imagined he was essentially Castor Troy from Face/Off.

If we’re getting deep into the most heart breaking and disturbing aspects of the Panic, then at least I hope we get into the silly as gently caress “Proctor and Gamble is Satanic, look at their logo” bit to balance it out. That debacle was probably the most QAnon-like event of the panic.

Having Lacey on to discuss Gregor McGregor on BtB is spot on because while McGregor is otherwise perfect as the subject for podcasts about con artists like Scam Goddess, Lie Cheat and Steal, etc, the sheer amount of people that ended up dead because of him kind of takes the fun out of the story and sends him straight to BtB/The Dollop territory. This is a great middle ground.

I still cannot believe that there was a time in history where hats were such a big deal that it led to stuff like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_Hat_Riot Also, I just got back from the supermarket and there was a white guy in his mid 20s shopping while wearing a freaking top hat.
