This video isn't really OSHA but saw it in another thread and reminded me how I got myself good in the eye when I was a deckhand. https://va.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ruppdd2K7R1qigfjt.mp4 So I used to work on a tow boat, which means stringing together barges, aka building tow. Here's a video of the process (only with the company I worked for we didn't have these handy winches, we had to use these giant loving heavy rear end ratchets). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQc5EwNDuNU Anyway, you'll see these thick rear end cables/wires. Once your ratchet or winch has tightened, what you'll do is take a big metal pipe and you beat as much slack out of the wire for further tightening. You just take that pipe and smack the gently caress outta the wire. But sometimes there's too much tension in the wire and the pipe will ricochet, which isn't unusual, but one time I had my face a little too close, and this heavy metal pipe (mighta been lead, idk) came right back and smacked me in the loving eye. Hurt like a motherfucker. Had a bright periwinkle bruise there for almost two weeks. Extra OSHA for not filing an accident report. Another fun little OSHA story about the river, my uncle, who was a towboater for years and years, got his foot completely torn off because he had stepped between two of those wires and I guess the boat musta hit something and his ankle got pinched. One more fun fact, the lifevests you wear aren't even designed to save your life, they're designed to make your body float if you go overboard, that way your body can be found. It doesn't always work. See out on tow you aren't allowed to wear any kind of jewelry including rings because they're a safety hazard. So one guy in company I worked for (I didn't know him personally) would put his wedding band on a string on his lifevest every time he went out on tow. He goes overboard and weeks later they find a lifevest which they could confirm was his, because tied to the vest was a wedding band. I've experienced this as a deckhand on a towboat. Doesn't happen as violently since i was on the river not the sea, but you get some pilots who can't drive worth a poo poo. One time I nearly fell out of my bed and another I was ejected from the shower

I know I'm being unreasonable here, but I don't get how people think they're making good points when they show stuff like this. Any wacko can just say well clearly that was made in a studio and/or CGI. It's like when you call a bigot a bigot, like you really think that's gonna change their mind?
