Shenanigans!

If you don't know what EVE Online is, you're probably too pure for these forums. Flee now. Save your sanity and soul. However, if you get aroused at the thought of non-consensual space ship PVP on your cell phone while you're at work, taking a poo poo, or ignoring your family, then this is good news for you. CCP has licensed the EVE IP to NetEase Games to make a mobile port based on the EVE Online universe. This will be a pretty close copy of PC EVE but some changes made to be more mobile friendly. Mostly, a complete rework of the UI. Echoes will have the same map as EVE Online but the two games are separate. Characters and assets don't carry over from one game to the other. This will be a fresh start. Hell, I don't even think the market will be seeded. People who got into the Apha test said it really captured the spirit and felt just like playing EVE Online on the PC.

There will be one server for the whole world so expect a lot of chinese. If you played Second Galaxy you will know this can make things very interesting.

(in game screenshot from alpha)

The UI has been streamlined a metric fuckton to make it playable on mobile devices. More tweaks are to be expected so it's only going to get better.

(in game screenshot from alpha)

No word yet on whether mining veldspar in Jita will be a thing or not. Expect a lot of Ventures in the early days. Expect a lot of suicide Venture killmails.
Mining veldspar in Jita is totally doable but Jita is so busy the system regularly crashes or lags so hard you'll be trapped there for hours. Don't go to Jita.

DON'T GO TO JITA UNTIL THEY REALIZE JITA WILL NEED BEEFY SERVERS

(in game screenshot from alpha)

Manufacturing and PI has been simplified too. It's incredibly important too. PI is the best free money you'll make in this game so farm the poo poo out of it on all 3 character slots. (you get 3 character slots here just like you did in EO)

EVE Vegas 2019 - EVE Echoes Keynote

FAQ!
Q: How big will corporations be in Echoes?
A: Corporations and alliances won't be in this beta. They will be in launch. For now, we'll have to make due with friend lists / fleets. Join the discord (link below) and make friends. Make alts. Make friends with alts.

Q: Will my 5 year old tablet run this game?
A: There is a chart of officially supported CPUs and minimum specs linked below. As they do more optimizations, it's getting better and better. It's already dropped from 4GB of RAM to 2GB and the list of supported CPUs has exploded. Look up the specs on your phone (google that poo poo, you heathen) and see what CPU it has. Look on the below list. If it's there, you're golden. If not, eh... Cross your fingers or throw your wallet at the problem.

Q: How many accounts can I have?
A: You can register with your google or icloud accounts, facebook, or email addresses. Can you guess which is going to be more secure?

Q: Can I run this on my computer?
A: There has been no word yet on a stand-alone version for PC/Mac but there's no shortage of emulators out there and the devs have basically said that they don't care if you use them, but don't expect them to provide support if it isn't working out.
edit: Lots of goons have been using Bluestacks and emulating as a Pixel 2XL with success.

Q: How does this differ from Second Galaxy?
A: SG and NetEase are both chinese developers and apparently have been bitter rivals for some time. SG did beat them to market with a playable mobile space ship MMO but so far not a day has gone by where they've need to do some kind of emergency maintenance to fix a bug which has turned up. Usually in a very high profile sovereignty war.

Q: Is Echoes going to be P2W?
A: They have not announced their monetization scheme so far. The closest thing to an answer has been a dodge in the Keynote video above. They're still looking into it. This means they're trying to figure out where the PC version makes its money and looking at how SG has been monetizing theirs. There has been a lot of hate about the way SG has done their payment scheme so it could honestly go either way. CCP/NetEase have said they really don't want a P2W game but you know how it goes.

Q: Can I fly a titan?
A: Supercaps aren't in the game yet. The've said they're going up to tech 10 this round. Besides, the test probably won't last long enough for people to train up to and build one anyway. Right now, battleships are as big as it goes.

Q: You didn't answer my question earlier about the differences between Second Galaxy and Eve Echoes!
A: (Sigh) You're right. There's too many unknown game mechanics just yet. I'll just add random observations below:
I can confirm that Echoes will not have Recruits or Wingmen like SG does.
Echoes won't have directional scanning. Neither does SG but I wanted to add it here.
Echoes uses the same skill training plan that EVE does. You have a 24 hour queue you can dump as much into as you want and any skills that take longer just keep going. I currently have a 5 day skill sticking out the back of my training window so I'm good for almost a week. I just toss smaller skills in front of it as I decide to. You can rearrange them on the fly and progress made just pauses. You only need ISK and time.
SG uses some terrible combination of time and resources where you can spend days not training anything at all if you hate mining and are in a lovely high sec corp.

Update:
Things to be aware of:
This test is far more popular than they could have hoped. There is often lag in many systems from all the pilots dicking around. Every day we get an email with daily rewards. Free ISK and free SP to use on whatever you like. Even your alts get it. Make alts. Start them on PI.

The map is a 1/1 copy of EVE. Evemaps and even eveplanets are accurate. PI has been simplified a ton so no need to worry about reactions or finding the perfect layout for your harvesters. We're working on a spreadsheet of the good planets since they seem static.

We're living out of [H-PA29 IV - Moon 2 - Guristas Assembly Plant]. It is a Caldari ITC Station with production capabilities.

If you're looking for a skill path, train for missile skills (Light Missile-> Rapid Light Missile) for our Corax/Caracal/Blackbird doctrines.
Also, train PI to at least 4 on all your toons. Takes no time at all with the free SP you get. Wanna go nuts? You can probably use that free SP on your alts to get them up to PI 5 / Advanced PI 4. The output is way higher but so is the capacity so you can ignore it longer.

The PI you should be focusing on are from top to bottom are:
Lustering Alloy|Gleaming Alloy|Motley Compound|Base Metal|Noble Metal
Opulent Compund|Reactive Metal
Precious Alloy|Glossy Compound
Any other Alloys, Metals, or Compounds.

Planetary Interaction is called Planetary Production in Echoes but nobody calls it anything but PI. It's a great source of income since they're in high demand and requires zero effort. Also, you can steal it if people launch it and you collect it first so that's fun. :D We're well on our way to becoming arms dealers. About half of us are big into industry making all the ships. PI is critical here so even if you don't wanna use it, you know someone who does.

(shamelessly stolen)

Ok, I'm in. Now what?
Mining - Everyone knows mining is important. If you're mining in empire space, you don't even have to worry about belt rats. Suicide gankers don't seem to be a thing yet either for whatever reason. It's great to do while semi-afk. Even completely AFK. Hell, I was probably mining while driving to work.

Combat anomalies - Rats don't spawn in belts anymore. They spawn in anomalies that show up in your overview. Lots of them. Show up and shoot rats in waves until they stop respawning. Loot wrecks. Proffit. Turn off auto-orbit and it feels a lot like you're mining rats instead of rocks.

Encounter - The Encounters board has lots of different missions that you can accept from anywhere. All types. Mining, combat, lots of hauling, some industry, etc. Chance of spawning a storyline mission which is more difficult, more rewarding, etc.

PVP - Believe it or not, you can PVP in EVE!

Scam - Player trading isn't in yet but you can pull some shady poo poo with delivery contracts and the market if you're clever.

Industry - You can become the Monopoly Man. The market still has some kinks but there are already some success stories and it's remarkably easy to get into. Way less fiddly than it is on Live.

Corporation Management - Just kidding, corporations aren't in yet. That makes it harder to stay organized but we're making do with friends lists, Discord, and fleets.

More edit:
Since corps still aren't in game yet, and won't be until the next beta phase (probably early next year) I'm seeing a lot of groups add their corp tags in front of their name. We cannot rename ourselves so our mains are stuck with the names we chose initially but I'm naming all my new alts GOON.charactername. Feel free to do the same. Upgrading Tech Level will be no more related to the specific skills, you can train any skills you like and all of them can help you upgrade your Tech Level. A brand new feature, free training, is also added into the game. When your training queue is empty, skill points would accumulate as free skill points (Slower than regular training).

I'm not sure how strict we'll need to be about goon authenticity. Attention spans for mobile games are short. In SG we had an open door policy and even with that it was really hard to keep numbers. I'm not sure if I can blame that on people having better things to do on their phone like watching porn, or because the game caused them to burn out and quit. The elitist jerk in me wants to stay pure, but I know most of the people I liked in SG aren't actual goons.

There won't be corps in the beta anyway and there's going to be a wipe before release. I don't see a reason not to allow access via direct invite until official launch and we need to actually consider security.

Mostly, yes. The alpha didn't have drones but they have been added to beta. They have stated that they are a little different than they are in PC. No explanation yet as to what this actually means. They listed two new modules that sound suspiciously like SG modules that give AOE fleet buffs. Personally, I think that's a good move since large fleet fights were very fun.

The ship values are hilariously off. During the vegas presentation the devs showed off the final fight the devs had against all the players and had a laugh at one cruiser worth 1T.

As for the missile Cormorant, apparently during the alpha people noticed that you couldn't speed tank missiles like you should be able to. That led to everyone using missiles since they always did full damage, no matter what.

The market is definitely struggling right now. Even in VV I tried to buy a Catalyst (3x miners and 900m3 cargo hold? Yes please) I wound up spending the cash to buy 6 of them by clicking the buy button a few times thinking there was lag.

There is definitely lag.

After 30 minutes or so I noticed I blew a cool million on destroyers and didn't have any in inventory. Went back to mining in my Herron and noticed after getting to work that I now have 1 catalyst sitting in inventory. Devs keep posting in discord that the market is crashing under the weight of all the people. I'm glad they're seeing it now and might be able to better guess how much they need to spend on servers for the market and Jita alone.

Slowly getting the hang of the game. Finally figured out how to stack items and how to get to the map. Hate the map. Still getting used to it.

Still more fun than SG.

Stay out of Jita!

Q: But I started as Gallente and the tutorial sends me there to buy an Atron.
A: RIP. Buy from somewhere twice as far away or skip the tutorial. It pretty much ends after you buy a ship, fly to a combat site and blow up a couple of training rats. No rewards for doing it. Just skip it.

Q: I started as Caldari and it sends me to Jita to buy a Condor.
A: I see no problem with that.

I don't know where Amarr and Minmatar send their people yet but they're better off.

The only real issue I see so far is the market and the prices. I've only got roughly 3mil, which makes affording anything impossible. I want to start mining and exploring, but unless I figure out how to manipulate a market place that can't stay online long enough to even use, I feel kinda trapped doing missions. Now granted, it's been so long since I've played Eve I don't remember what my options are as far as kitting out a cheap ship to mine or wormhole, but it still seems pretty gated.

Mining for the win setup:
Catalyst with 3x mining lasers. Comes with a 900m3 cargo hold and fills up surprisingly fast. Unless you put more training into your fitting skills than I have so far, you wont' be able to also fit a repper or AB in addition to the 3x miners. This is good because the mighty Catalyst is already good enough to permatank and outrun asteroids. There don't seem to be belt rats in Echoes but with us moving to Syndicate (join the Discord, you heathens!) you're much more likely to be rewarded with free PVP.

Hauling seems to be good money. Low risk. Low excitement. Good rewards.

Going to combat sites and shooting rats is a great way to get guns and misc drops. There's no salvaging wrecks, but I've gotten salvage drops from just looting a wreck so that's easy.

Manufacturing and invention seems like a really good use of your time right now if you're even marginally industry inclined. Goonspace needs stuff. We also need the practice on how to supply and reinforce an ecosystem when we chose to go there.

I'm 100% certain there are people trying to rat and mine in Jita.

The blueprints we buy to make our poo poo is BPC so stock up if you intend to make more than one. There doesn't appear to be a minimum skill to manufacture anything I've seen yet.

PI is a huge bottleneck and it's also free money. What with all the free SP they're giving out for maintenance, I filled my other two character slots with throw away alts and instantly trained them up to Planetology 4 using just the daily rewards and free SP they gave out for Jita. Since then, they've given out another 400k sp so maybe I can take them to Planetology 5? Hell, tempted to make a whole other account just for more planet alts to harvest their poo poo once a week and post in Goonspace for us to use.

Destroyers are easy to get into and quite effective. They scale well and with advanced skills, some of the more advanced destroyers can put out some serious hurt for a fraction of cruiser money (just not as tanky). I've considered making destroyers the default recommended newbie build as that's also where you'll start to see mid slots.

I've been making a ton of tackling frigates but the lack of direct trading means I've been sitting on them until it's time for an op or someone wants to get one. I don't see frigates as a waste of skill points since so much of this game is going to depend on fast locks and good points. Some of our best roams have been in frigate heavy fleets with the expensive ships like the Worm and Garmur. Holy poo poo those things own. They're super expensive but we're all space rich and we can't keep it anyway so why not fly the best?

We tried Kestrel fleet once and it net us a few kills but anything that didn't die in a bigass salvo of missile spam warped out because T2 frigates have no mid slots for warp disruptors. The first thing someone's likely to sit in that does have mids are the destroyers. Better DPS, still pretty cheap, but they're all gun bonused. That's not a huge deal because a 20% bonus to missiles for the two missile racks a Kestrel has isn't as good as having a 3rd rack like any of the destroyers. There is also a lot of destroyer variants along the upgrade path so if someone wanted to go all the way up the destroyer tree, they'll get into interdictors and some of the other variations that are out there.

Edit: HyperHauling seems to be nerfed. My usual 50m run is saying I'll only get 8m and I'm 99% sure that's the same as I paid for the shipment to begin with so no profit at all. In the AMA, someone asked when logistics payouts would return. I didn't think they had been removed but apparently after the patch this morning, it went away.

quote:

Hi guys. As you know, Logistic is a new gameplay. To encourage players to engage Logistic, we set subsidy. So that we can collect more feedback about it.
But recently, players have found a loophole to gain the subsidy by shipping their own cargos, which is against our purpose. So we decide to cut the subsidy in OBT.
And in the future, we will make the subsidy dynamic, which means it will adjust by supply and demand.
Thanks for your understanding.

Smaller ships do have a place in the EVE universe but right now the meta is not in its favor. I've seen a skilled interceptor pilot tear a battleship apart in EO but nobody can fly battleships in the beta yet. Very very few alpha players can fly battlecruisers right now so when they show up on killmails, it's a huge loss. Most people right now are in frigates, destroyers, and cruisers. Of those, the Caracal missile cruiser just one shots frigates and two shots destroyers. Missiles are still pretty good at what they do. I haven't seen anyone do a good job of speed tanking missiles yet. I'm not sure if it's working as intended or not but when looking at the current mix of modules, rigs, and skills, it looks like missiles will always trump smaller sig radius and speed tanking.

Yes, I'm still salty about losing my worm during the op because I couldn't do poo poo.

Max corp size is 200. That's better than before at least.

Most mobile games aren't as large scale and community driven as EVE is. Even Second Galaxy had much larger corp sizes and even then it was too small. There's a lot (A LOT) I can blame those devs for but at least they understood the need for larger corp sizes. Artificially limiting them as a skill gate isn't going to do much but frustrate the player base. Do they think it'll limit blobbing in fleet fights? The only thing I've seen so far that's limiting fleet fights is that sovereignty won't be in at launch so there's no reason to take big shot ops to nullsec.

On the other hand, it's the only mobile game I've seen that doesn't use gacha as the main gameplay element.

They should make it Gacha, but only getting pulls for popping pods.

I... I actually like this idea. :ohdear:

I wouldn't bet on it. This app is pretty demanding resource wise.

All this game needs to make money is to sell cosmetic items. Fancy ship skins won't cut it. I'm talking anchorable holographic penises we can put on the Jita 4-4 undock. Rent out ad space on the advertisements you see projected on space stations or those news TVs by stargates. Thorax paint jobs that are flesh colored at the very least. They just need to know their audience.

"I break for nobody" and "My other car is a cyno alt" bumper stickers for supercapitals.

p.s. Due to platform policy, the limit for the test will be 10k for Andoid and 10k for iOS. So, hurry up!

They list in their promo material that it can be run from PC, Android or iOS. They listed PC first so I'm guessing they know what's up.

New info on monetization:

TL/DR - Free alpha clones;
Train slower (30 skill points per minute)
Can't learn certain skills
Can only fly ships T7 and below
Can't use the market unless at an ITC
No contracts

Omega clones come in two flavors. $5 normal and $15 pimp level.

Normal has no restrictions and trains at 30 sp/m

Pimp level gives you an even bigger boost to training speeds (and they're selling boosters too so I'm seeing people quote 75 sp/m)
Other stuff too

Edit: Trading with an alpha clone will be more likely to be on hold due to triggering an audit to make sure it's not botting / exploiting, etc. On one hand we can look at it and say "Good! The developers are doing something to prevent exploiters." On the other hand, it sure would be a shame if your new ship purchase was put on hold until tomorrow when someone can review your case. Yep. A real shame. Those Omega players over there don't have that problem. I'm not asking for a payoff or anything, but if your credit card fell out of your wallet, it might accidentally land on my approve button...
